Looked and smelled ok, but tasted like bacon grease out of a dirty ashtray. Couldn't finish more than 3 drinks.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle
coffee and smoke on the nose, minimal head that dissolves into a persistent film, minimal lacing. black with minimal carbonation, i don’t get a lot of smoke in the taste but being a fan of Islay malted scotch when something advertises itself as ’smoked’ i expect it to be a bit more pronounced. I get more of a malt and coffee taste, not overly hopped which allows the malt, light smoke and coffee to come through. Smooth mouth-feel. Overall, while i’d prefer the smoke to be more pronounced this is an enjoyable beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Poured with about 1 cm cream-colored head. Opaque black. Slightly red in the light. Not nearly as smoky as expected. Aroma is mostly chocolate and dry roast, but smoke is faintly present on the nose. Faint smokey flavor, but the smoke lends more of a fruity flavor. Higher carbonation than I’d prefer. Dry finish. A pretty good beer, just not what I was expecting.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle - small foamy head, dark black color, very smokey, sweet malt aroma and flavor, yet still pretty smooth and not hard to drink - better than I thought it would be, need some BBQ to go with it!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz pour. Pours out almost black with off white head. The aroma is SMOKE. Almost a sweet smoke aroma with dark roasted malts as the backbone. The flavor is the same very deep and rich in flavor. That smokiness comes through with every sip and that is what you do with this beer. This is a medium bodied beer with great flavors.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle pours darck cola brown with a small light tan head. Aroma is overpowered by the bacony smoke, but there’s some coffee and roasted malts. Texture is on the oily side, and body is much thinner than I expected from a porter. Lively carbonation, and a somewhat bitter taste but an afteraste that is a bit odd. An interesting beer, but not my favorite smoked porter.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a slightly boring Monday night after a long work day. Appearance is a cola like black with not much head, tiny carbonation bubbles rising to the top. Aroma of smoked malt, a hint of vanilla, a bit of wood. The taste is fantastic, the smoke flavor is incredibly dark, has a nice complexity, almost like a campfire with a slight jerky-like backing. There’s definitely better smoked porters out there (see Stone...) but this one ain’t bad.
