Commercial Description:
This is a limited edition of our award winning Smoked Porter. This beer was transferred from the fermentation tank five days after it was brewed to a fifty-three gallon freshly emptied bourbon barrel where it was aged for one year. Over that year we carefully adjusted the storage temperature in order to allow the beer to work in and out of the wood of the charred American oak barrel. This process of aging allowed the flavors of the bourbon to blend with the beer, leaving a seamless transition of flavor and aroma with hints of vanilla and caramel. The smoke flavor of the beer takes a backseat to the charred oak of the barrel to make for a perfect blend of smoked porter and bourbon.

22oz wax dipped bomber. Served in a chalice. Poured a deep brown with very little carbonation. Rich aroma with lots of whiskey and smoke. Chocolate and vanilla in the aroma as it warms. Smooth bodied with more whiskey flavor, chocolate sweetness. Not much hop bitterness. Smoke and bourbon are a good combo. Long whiskey finish. I liked this batch better than the last one. It is still a little thin. If they boosted the gravity a little, I think they would really have something special.

Pour is a black with no head at all. Aroma is more on the bourbon side with a little vanilla in there. Flavor is less smoky and meaty than the original smoke porter but a nice helping of the bourbon takes its place. In fact one knock on the beer is that its pretty one dimentional as the bourbon takes over everything. Not a bad thing as im fond of a nice bourbon but those that are not would not like this. Ofallon should probably amp up the alcohol for a barrel aged beer.

Black colour with a tan head. Vague roasted aroma with a quite sweet vanilla note and hints of smoke. Malty, light fruity flavor with vanilla sweet notes. Light whiskey note in the finish.

Bottle thanks to theisti sampled on 9/15/07: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a nicely-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of rich, sweet smoky dark caramel malt and a subtle hint of oaky whiskey. Starts sweet and dark caramely with good smoky bitterness and mild whiskey complexity. Nicely-balanced, interesting and enjoyable.

An amazing delicious concoction that reminded me little of the non-barrel version I consumed a few days earlier. The smoked porter definately takes a backseat to the bourbon whiskey and malt and some kind of full mouthfeel yeasty reaction that was a delight with a good fish and meat dinner.

Sample provided by BBB63. Dark brown with no head. The nose is boozy with cheap whiskey, vanilla and molasses. Flavor is chocolate, brown sugar and bourbon. Medium body is thin and watery.

Poured a clear very deep brown color with a beige head. The aroma is doughy, chocolatey and mildly smokey. The flavor had a hint of chocolate but otherwise kind of bland. Smooth mouthfeel.
