bomber. marked #121 of 960 april 10 2008. from the batch aged in 23 year old van winkle barrels. black in color. little to no head. lots of smokey notes with vanilla and bourbon playing a big part. tarry, with some subdued plum notes. body is a little thin for barrel aging in my opinion. smoked malts blend well with the barrel age. vanilla toffee and wood are most noticible. good stuff overall. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Bomber wax capped via trade with msante79, shared with dalekliz and my girlfriend Cyn who loves the smokey brews, and doesn’t mind whiskey too. Pours black with a 1 finger light brown head. Nose is quite smokey very rich, without a lot of bourbon or whiskey. Taste is smokey and a little light and vanilly with some oak and a touch of bourbon. I have mixed feelings about this, its certainly good, but slightly strange as well. Smoked beers are a mixed bag for me. I like the taste more than the nose, but its overall a nice smokey whiskey porta. mreusch (748), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2009 22oz. bottle, dated 4/10/08, #753/960, Pappy Van Winkle barrel. Pours a dark brown with a moderate tan head. Aroma is a nice blend of smoke, oak, charred wood, and light bourbon and chocolate. Flavor is more smoke, charred oak, and some espresso. I didn’t really have high hopes for this one, but it’s decent stuff. A bit thin on a palate and not a lot of depth, but overall not too shabby. If I had to guess based on other reviews, I think this barrel is one of the better ones used, and some age probably helped out as well. dmac (1510), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 2, 2007 22 oz bomber shared with willblake and Dickinsonbeer. Pours a deep dark brownish/black with some red highlights with a very small head. Aroma of whiskey, vanilla, caramel, wood and a slight bit of grass. Body was rather thin and the flavor was watered down compared to the aroma. As it warmed up some the flavor seemed to grow but not enough to make this more then just slightly above average. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2009 Pours dark mahogany in color with a small but lasting, creamy, dark khaki head. Some nice flares and spots of lacing mark the glass. Aromas are really nicely blended, notes of dark caramel and cola malt sweetness steeped well with vanilla and soft, sour mash bourbon notes. The smoke is subtle, imparting almost more of a charred oak note than smoked malts. Flavors follow suit, never too hot from the whiskey, with oaky, toasted vanilla notes, cocoa, and dark caramel working together nicely. Medium bodied, smooth, and softly carbonated, the mouthfeel works for a brew of this stature and type. Good stuff. jkwalking05 (1501), Arlington, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Dark brown pour, small head around edges. Aroma is very much like beef jerky. Smoke, booze, malt and bacon. Flavor goes back and forth between smoke, booze and a slightly toasty porter. This is very unique and very much worth seeking out. Gregis hooked me up with this and I say THANKS!! Cheers.
