A Belgian Strong Half-Quad made with a ridiculous amount of oats, unrefined Belgian candy syrup and fermented with yeast stolen from the clutches of deepest, darkest ostrich pit of Oostvleteren. Brewed especially for either Three Floyds and Friends week or Belgium’s Kattenstoet, “Festival of Cats.” It really depends on who you ask.

Sampled at Countryside Saloon. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have some sweet malts, earth tones and spices, mildly tart, wood. Interesting, but not something that I would seek out again.

Draft @ Novare Res Bier Café. Dim lighting shows me a dark black color with lasting head in a tulip glass. Aroma of roasted barley, chocolate, coffee dregs and a candy like note. Nice!

The flavor is close to an oatmeal stout. Chewy oat texture with deep roasted grain body. Medium in body leaning on full. Has hints of dark fruit but the char and roasted grain takes over the light fruit or candy hint. The mouthfeel is ashy and lightly smoky. I order this because it was a collaboration and didn’t have any idea what it was from the menu, I like it because of the stout elements to it.

Tap sample at CBC 2014. Onyx black body, small off-white head. Aroma is ashes, mild tar notes, powdered coffee, chocolate and hints of licorice. Taste is salty licorice, ashes, mild tar, leather and hints of coffee and powdered chocolate. Medium body and carbonation. Fair enough, but Off Color can’ t really impress me with this.
