Most brewers spend a lot of time and effort keeping lactobacillus out of their breweries; it was the first thing we brought in (it still has to stay in the corner though). We blend together two different beers to make Troublesome. The first is a somewhat uninteresting wheat beer and the second is an overly acidic & funky beer fermented solely with lactobacillus. We blend the two beers together with coriander and salt at the tail end of fermentation to create a mild, lemony tartness and a fuller sensation of mouthfeel. And yes, itís hard to make.

Bottle. Pour is nearly clear yellow with minimal head. Aroma is light with hints of lemon, light hay, and a touch of bread. Flavor is also light and bready with light yogurt tartness and a touch of earth and hay. Pretty subdued. Not much here.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C. The beer is light golden with small head that quickly dissipates. Aromas of sourdough bread, funky malt, light spice, particularly coriander, wheat. Thereís an odd, rubbery scent in there as well, but I canít decide how distracting it is...Sour, earthy flavor. Tart lemon-like qualities. An interesting take on a gose. Unusual and worth a try.

Tart lemon, coriander, mild salt, and mild sweetness for balance. Pretty damn simple but clean and well done.

Bottle, as pictured. I wasnít sure what style of beer this was. Had a little bit of funk but some sweetness too. A little peppery, a little lemony but not too much. Definitely lacto but Iím not a huge lacto guy. Ok.

Pour is a hazy dull yellow with a large white head. Aroma is wheat malt, bitter fruit with some floral notes. Flavor is a heavy dose of wheat malt followed by some tart citric acid. Finish is wheaty with maybe a bit of that coriander left on the tongue. Not really that much salt but I could really do without something overly salt heavy. A decent beer.

Iím still relatively new to enjoying Gose style beers, but I feel this is a solid representation of this most interesting brew. There is a sourness and funkiness at play here with a citric and salty feel. Enjoyable and thought provoking.

At Bar with friend, suggested this for me given I enjoy acidity / sour beer. LOVED it! Have asked for this beer in several other craft beer bars unsuccessfully. Sour aroma....moderate carbination....crisp citrus fuzz on the tongue. Clean finish. Again....I really enjoyed this beer. Have been served Sofie as a comparable. Sofie seemed sweeter.
