3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had this last night on draft at Pizza Port’s strong ale fest in carlesbad. Brew had a nice balance between malt and hops. At first we thought it was a dunkel style, but upon more tastes I’d call it an imperial brown. Quite a good and interesting beer.

dark amber, thin tan head, light sweet malt aroma with a hint of chocolate, rich malt flavor, light bitter finish, not a lot of anything
a touch of sweet raison in the aroma, hops start about mid way through and last through a long finish, a bit of warm alcohol in the finish before the bitterness kicks in

brownish copper color w/ a monster off white head odd sweet notes I cant really place, some toffee and some grass hop with hints of alcohol, a bit to light for a big beer. Palate is smooth & well coated, flavor is light. alcohol is masked well tastes sweet of toffee & soem brown sugar. Good but very plain.

Tap. The beer pours to a clean looking dark chestnut body with a thin ring white head. The aroma is grapey and light. Toffee and iced tea. The flavor is corn syrup, toffee, iced tea, light floral and lemon hops. The palate does not have any detectable alcohol, yet I know its high. Medium-bodied, pretty "plain Jane".

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest, Dec 05. Pours very very deep brown. Sweet thick caramelly malt aroma laced with alcohol. Lots of thick sweet caramel malty flavors, with some medium fruit notes, and a clean moderate bitter finish. Alcohol was fairly present, and the beer was very warming.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Growler shared by beeryum: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a nicely-lacing off-white head. Sweet, sugary, toasty cookie malty aroma has a nice grassy, piney hop presence. Starts with a nice sweet dark caramel maltiness balanced with some crisp piney hops toward a warming alcoholic finish. Has some pleasant complexity throughout, but really could hide the alcohol better. Otherwise, a nice brew.

Tasted on tap at the 2005 Pizza Port Strong Ale festival. Dark orange gold color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is caramel malts and piney hops. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. Malts are roasted, caramel and sweet. Hops are piney and floral. Interesting beer, lots of malt sweetness at the start, then a fairly bitter dry finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

V:Big floral and grapefruity fresh hop aroma and light toasted malt.
PP:Sweet and malty with a light bitterness running through. Blaanced and drinkable with a slight warmth.
V: Toasted malt flavor with a good bit of grapefruit rind and mild bitterness on finish. Light alcohol pepper at the end.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at the Pizza Port 9th Strong Ale Festival. Agree with chilehead concerning the imperial brown characterization. Big malt character with enough hops to balance, a good brew that I’d like to try again.
