Desverger (7970) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 21, 2016
Bottle (2010) shared with Niller, sourced from Toft Vin, Copenhagen - dark brown pour with off white head. Sweet malty aroma and taste, caramel, treacle, some burnt brown sugar, dark dried fruit, carbonation is virtually flat which is strange, very warming boozy, interesting brew, nice but thinking would of been better a little younger.

250ml bottle at home in Richmond as íOíHanlonís Brewers Special Reserveí, 12.9%, 2010 vintage. Very dark red - almost black, small foamy off-white head. Aroma is strong and pungent, oxidised, sherry, strawberry, pork. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is raisin, dates, tangy dried fruits, a bit of twig, spicy alcohol tang. Itís actually held up pretty well. It tastes very similar to more highly rated barley wines. This just isnít my style though.

Ktwse (3923) - Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 9, 2016
Keg @ Rake. Pours clear mahogany with flat head. Aroma of toffee, butterscotch, nuts, burnt notes, raisins. Taste is rich toffee sweet and very boozy, complex with raisins, nuts, muscovado but then a very boozy finish that takes over. Body is rich and smooth with soft carbonation.

Bottle from Metro Wines, Leicester. 2010 Vintage. Deep Ruby brown colour with no head. Sweet spicy cake aroma and a slightly sweet taste. Body has warming alcohol. But not suprusing with the high alcohol content.

Clear red brown colour, dissipating white head. Malty aroma, madeira, raisins. Quite alcoholic flavour, sweet malts, raisins. Finish raisins and sweet sherry. Feels indeed old, but held up quite nicely.
(from bottle @ Sunday Bottle Share / Not Quite So Grand Tasting, CBC Clerkenwell; RBESG 2014, London. 2010 vintage. Thanks for sharing, rb crew!)

mcberko (13894) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 1, 2015
2010 vintage. 250mL bottle, courtesy of fiulijn (thanks a lot, Alex), pours a murky dark rusted mahogany - no head. Nose brings out rich dark fruits, sherry oxidation, brown sugar and some alcohol. Flavour is rich and complex, with dark dried fruits, caramel, liqueur, and just a touch of booze. The alcohol is really well-worked in for being this high. Zero carbonation - totally flat, but it works. Smooth palate. Luxurious.

Marduk (6140) - Reval, ESTONIA - APR 22, 2015
250ml bottle 2010 vintage (thanks FatPhil). Clear copper color. Tiny size to almost no head. Sweet, raisins, woody, caramel, fruity aroma. Soaken wet fruits, plums, soapy, salty liquorice, oily taste. Oily slick mouthfeel. Salty licorice in aftertaste. Alcohol is there. As it warms up itís pure licorice. Soft bitterness.

FatPhil (13582) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - APR 22, 2015
250ml bottle (Bacchanalia, Cambridge)
Gentle prune aroma, a heavy barley presence too, though. Deep reddy brown, flat. Slick palate, carbonation next to none-existent. I have no idea how or why, but an image of a fish has just appeared in my mind. It might be the oiliness of th palate, it might be the slight saltiness. Something soapy there too. I do get some alcohol too up the back of the nose. A little heavy, some liquoricey bitterness from the dark roasted malts and the salt. Doesnít have the yumminess I like from a barley wine, I am disappointed. The ~#10000 Barley Wine binge comes to an end.
