Bottle donditioned, 500ml. Brown amber with white head, quickly diminishing. This is a smooth, malty rich beer with a touch of spices on the tongue. there is a little fruitiness hidden away, but mostly the strong caramel malt notes. Ok.

A dark reddish copper ale with a thick frothy moka head. In aroma, wet dough with light vinous qualities, treacle, quite nice. In mouth, a smooth dark malt with light molasses, woody notes, light maderization, overall quite nice. Bieropholie import. BB 26-12-2009.

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Shamansbury’s. Caramel nose with hints of coffee. Nice red brown colour with sadly a swiftly dissapating head. On the initial pour it’s an easy 4 but the head is over in about 30 seconds. Strange it seemed so compact and well formed. Anyway, flavour is rather straight forward. Bitter orange with a strange hoppy note and and strange fizzyness. Slight metalic note. Palate is ok but a little sticky in the end. Not bad overall.

bottle, a gift from friends in Devon. Clear red-golden colour, mid-sized head. Malty nose with aroma of berries. Fruity overall character, berries, currant, with a pleasant sourness/fruitiness. Quite fruity, slightly malty and hopps.

Bottle, picked up in Sainsbury’s. Pours mid brown with a very slight haze, some nice gentle malty and spicey notes. Taste is very pleasing, again malts and spices and a nice richness with good bitterness levels a really nice beer and certainly one of the better seasonal oferings tried so far this Christmas.

500ml bottle picked up at Sainsbury’s, Holborn and shared with Magne and CinnamonGirl. Dense, white head rapidly diminishing. Spicy and floral malty aroma. Mandarin and juicy fruit in a refreshing taste. Notes of biterness towards the end. Fizzy and medium mouthfeel (01.02.2007).

Don’t be put off by the filthy dishwater, headless pour or soupy murk. Sniff and taste. A very pleasantly hopped specimen swimming with bitter orange mandarin fruitiness, precisely as claimed. But where’s the spice?
