joe19612 (673), camberley, Surrey, England Nov 7, 2009 Bottle. The beer pours a deep black colour with ruby highlights. Aroma was chocolate, roasted and coffee. Flavor that is slightly sour with good hops then coffee and a slight nutty ruby port flavor as it warmed.
ladnewton (200), London, Greater London, England Nov 5, 2009 Cask at the Old Fountain, London on 4th November 2009. Dark ruby with off-white head leaving a ring of foam around sides of glass. Burnt malt/smoke aroma; very fruity main kick with strong raspberry notes and some spice, akin to a Belgian Frambozen. The finish continues on a fruity theme; an alcoholic note is also present in the finish, all delivered on a mildly textured mouthfeel. A different, and pleasant, well-crafted stout. jimhilt (1664), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Oct 19, 2009 Pours a three finger tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Totally black color, no high lights. Medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Slight roasted coffee nose. Flavor is semisweet roasted coffee. Small burnt coffee finish. Not finding any port. Halfway between a sweet and dry stout. $4.99 for a 500ml bottle from Manchester Wine and Liquors Manchester, CT. Best by 1/23/10. RichardW (241), Carlisle, Cumbria, England Oct 12, 2009 Cask, JDW, Carlisle. Stunning, smooth subtly roasted jet black stout. Beautifully balanced richness that just slides the neck far too easily. One of my favourite stouts. ChrisThomson (382), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2009 Bottle. Reddish brown colour. Great hazelnut and berry aroma. Taste of chocolate, port is prominent. Texture is smooth with bitter finish. BeerViking (193), Brentford, Greater London, England Sep 21, 2009 Pours a brown-red that’s almost black, with a fine small off-white head. Nose has chocolate, vine fruits, slight lambic notes, body is juicy yet adds lots of bitter roastiness. douglas88 (1559), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 19, 2009 500 ml bottle from Tres Bon Cuisine I think- best by 1/23/10. Pours a dark black color with ruby hues when exposed with light and a thick beige head. A rich roasted aroma, something fruity and spicy as well. A rich flavor of roasted malts, a spicy hot mix that must be port, some fruit and dryer elements. Very nice and rich. Chocolates as well. Again, I’m a sucker for a good English Stout. Nice. saxo (3516), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Sep 9, 2009 Bottle. Huge head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are dominated by licorice. Some roast malt, coffee and chocolate as well. Dry finish.
