Commercial Description:
In the winter of 1996 we were inspired by an Irish tradition for a morning after 'corpse-reviver' - a splash of Port in your stout! The inspired blending of Rich Ruby Port with O'Hanlon's award-winning stout has created a unique and original masterpiece of craft brewing.

Delicious stout. Aroma was a little weak. Mostly chocolate and caramel. Almost like a Snickers. Pour was a deep dark brown with a nice 1 finger tan head. Taste is a different mix of sweet and bitter. The sweet comes in the front with heavy chocolate notes and burnt malt. Aftertaste is a bitterweet vinous mix of alcohol and coffee. Nice beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark ruby almost black color with a longlasting off-white head. Dry roasted fruity aroma with some hints of chocolate and darkfruit. Roasted malty chocolate flavor with some hints of the port. Has a dry roasted malty finish with some fruity hints from the port.

Black with ruby edges, thin light tan head. Aroma is roasty, with chocolate showing from the port, caramel. Taste is somewhat watery, then has a very light sourness which I’m assuming is from the port. Not a big fan.

Bottle 500ml. Pours a good dark stout colour with a medium beige head, which seemed disappear in no time. Has a sweet aroma, reminiscent of sweet dark fruits, but nothing special. The taste, however, is completely different. The flavour starts, rather oddly, with hints of cod liver oil - what’s that all about? It then settles down to something resembling dark roast coffee beans, with a backup sweetness. It then leaves you with a dry bitterness to finish. This one was quite thin, not at all what I had expected and not, as it says on the bottle, “superbly smooth”. Thumbs down for this one.

Really think I’ve had a bad batch. Pours oily brown with no head. Aroma slightly sweet chocolate. Very thin on the palate with a mild chocolate, bread body with port evident. I expected a much richer flavour.

Aroma is mild and roasted with a odd sweetness. Color is black with good carbonation and a huge head that keeps growing. Taste is twangy. Starting with a medium body that goes down sharp. Finish is a sweet taste that turns sour quickly, this sour taste is odd and has a wine like quality to it. It ends bitter with a dry feel. Reminds me of a novices homebrew. Not a good Stout.

Bottle. This pours a brown so dark it almost appears black, but not quite. The head on this is a rather fine, beige colour that quickly disperses. Aromas of smoked/roasted malts and a hint of liquorice-like sweetness. A nicely dry, roasted flavour compliments the aromas and the port is subtle yet noticeable on the front of the tongue. Very smooth and fairly thick on the palate with a lasting dry bitter finish. A rather impressive stout.
