Rune (2757), Tromsø, Norway Dec 29, 2007 This years winner of bottle-conditioned beers of Britain. 500ml bottle bought at Utobeer, London in Feb.07. Huge frothy, light brown head with lots of bubbles, good retention and great glass-lacing. Almost jet-black with a ruby tint. Inviting aroma of caramel malts. Blended flavours of slightly roasted grain, earth, dark malts and coffee offset by fruity hints. Rounded bitterness in the aftertaste. Medium bodied. A lovely stout (28.12.2007). Powertrip (183), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 21, 2007 Delicious meat loaf in a bed of sweet potatoes. Definitely a busy nose. Thick and stiff colour. Tar at its finest. Head was not worthy of such a stout, much too airy and bubbly.
Dark cocao and guateamala coffee beans stuck in the middle of a hearty meat & potatoes dinner all while supported by the mildest covering of port. What a complex number! - Not to be outdone by the curious hint of lemon tart on the finish. Tremendous stuff. Bier brauen (210), Bremerton, Washington, USA Dec 16, 2007 Pours blackish-purple. Coffee with notes of plum. One of the nicest head I’ve seen yet. Thick, lasting, and big foam bubbles. Taste is first of the port, then the stout, then a bitter finish of hops. Great with a pot roast!! allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Dec 9, 2007 Bottled. Pours dark brown, with a nice tan head. Nose is vinous and sour. Flavor is roasty, with notes of port wine. Finished with a nice hop bitterness. beerledgend (919), Meadowbank Auckland, New Zealand Dec 6, 2007 Dark black with hint of red. Small toffee coloured head. Mild sweet flavour with not much port. KnutAlbert (3110), Oslo, Norway Dec 5, 2007 Bottle from Whole Foods, London.
Lovely. Pure enjoyment. Quite a contrast to the Beer Lao I just had!
This has a lovely smokiness to which thay have added some port, and you have the port aroma well blended in with the beer. I would have loved a stronger version of this. 8% or 12%. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Nov 20, 2007 Bottle. Pours translucent brown with ruby highlights. A lacing brown head is present. Smells a bit like budweiser with a roast character and faint sweetness. Faint sweet flavor, toasty stout, not noticing much port flavor, more a hint of cherry coke. Light and tingly feel, like pop. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Nov 1, 2007 Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, oak, chocolate, coffee, and only a slight hint of the port. Flavor is kind of light at first. The roasted malts and oak dominate the flavors on this one. Has a slightly bitter finish but not too strong. Not really what I was expecting
