Thick brown head sinks into a lump that is rather mold-like in appearance. Aroma seems a little subdued. I expected a something more. Flavour is interesting. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2007 Pours a very dark murky brown color, almost black and impenetrable. Head is tan, rather big and frothy. It shows good retention and leaves a stable film.
Intense and fantastic malty aroma. It shows notes of Port Wine, oak, figs, prunes, coffee roastiness, licorice and rye bread. Very enticing and solid.
Flavor is bittersweet, very roasty, starting with sweet-ish notes of truffles, port wine, dark german rye bread, toasted cereal grains, strong coffee and some touches of raisins, wood and licorice. Nice!
Medium body and carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel, juicy texture. The finish is very dry leaving a roasted and long aftertaste. A great stout. hughie (3053), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 4, 2007 Very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is metallic and not very welcoming. No, I don’t pick up the port. After that things begin to improve. Sweet, smooth, ashy malt, a little dark chocolate and a satisfying bitter finish are the main ingredients. A winter warmer, so why am I drinking it on a fresh English May morning? Tmoney99 (4713), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
