GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 27, 2007 Bottle. Dark ruby-brown with a good sized light tan head. Interesting aroma - fairly malty/roasty with notes of coffee and smoke, and a tinge of sour fruit. Body is on the thin side - decent for an ale, but light for a stout. Flavour follows on the aroma - sweet roasty notes of the top, some mild smoke and coffee, and a dry, sourish finish. Pretty neat little beer. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 25, 2007 Had at Joes medium body, nice head, some lacing, lotsa coffee but too dry a stout for my tastes, lotsa roasted notes Radek Kliber (3930), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Jan 21, 2007 Bottle 500 ml, Smokeless Joe
Pours clear, brown with fizzy smallish top, fine lacing.
Aroma- Good roasted character, softened by smooth creamy touch, milky mocha like.6+
Medium thin body, roasted character prevails. Drinkable ale with a bit short living flavoring. Roasted malts but flat in execution. Juice it up , give some live would be good for this ale. 5+
faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Jan 21, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown-reddish colour with a nice tan long lasting head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and chocolate, bit hoppy dry finish. Tasty good stout indeed. dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 13, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a thin light brown lacing of a head. Caramel and chocolate in the nose, with the port addition ringing through with an enjoyable non-malt sweetness. Taste is upfront roast malt, coffee, very slight bitter and finishes with a sour or acidic note - perhaps this is where the port is coming through in the taste, and if so - could be done better. Fairly thick on the tongue; little carbonation. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jan 6, 2007 A dark brown to black stout with a thick fluffy moka head. A rather strong Brett aroma, herbal with notes of chocolate, bitter and roasted. In mouth, a bitter chocolate appears clearly, a bit herbaceous, but no porto noted in this. Medium bodied. Bieropholie private imports, early 2006. BB 03-05-2007. Arayaga2 (933), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 5, 2007 Dark brown, nearly black with substantial tan head. Aroma has an interesting rose-like hint to it. Taste is very dry and roasty like if you watered down a proper stout. The port does not shine through in this tasting. $4/17oz. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 19, 2006 Bottle.
This one practically explodes out of the bottle with aggressive carbonation, leaving a great big light-brown head atop a nice dark body.
The port wine flavors come through strongly here, with quite noticable additions of smoke and licorice. The whole thing is amply hopped, leaving a vinous porter that is filled out by a nice bitter finish.
For me, the whole doesn’t quite add up to the sum of the very good parts, but it is still a nice beer.
