Gary (352), Buckinghamshire, England Aug 17, 2009 How can they call this a masterpiece ? Its an ok gimick beer but the port texture is so subtle you need a magnifying glass to see it. Just roasted bitterness, chocolate and coffee iz what came through to my palate. dnas2 (627), Yelverton, Devon., Devon, England Aug 6, 2009 Cask handpump at GBBF 2009.
Nearly black with a red tinge. Short head. Lots of winter berries in the scent. Well balanced. Coffee is about the only thing in the mouth but delicate enough not to be too rich. Some dryness. Quite nice. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 30, 2009 Deep dark brown, highlights of purple, thin head. Malty nose, chocolate, dark roast coffee, hazelnuts, candy, slightly spicy. went down as smooth as silk, can definetely tell the port presence, sweet spices, port was very predominant in the finish. Must get more... BillKismet (1899), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 20, 2009 Highly carbonated black walnut body with a chocolate float top. Medium and deep roasted barley , chocolate wispis, hop bitterness, chocolate port, and nuts all greet the nose in waxing and waning motions. Full bodied at the start, though the body starts to thin toward the end of the glass. Well-stated depth of malts, medium and deep roasted barley and chocolate malt as well. Port is scarcely, if at all, present. Nonetheless, impressive complexity. A trace of tinniness and, perhaps, oxidation on the finish. Solid overall, but no woldbeater. MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 17, 2009 Poured a clear dark brown with an explosive foamy tan head that just wouldn’t stop, and the resulting lacing was simply fantastic; amongst the best I’ve ever seen. The aroma was coffee, chocolate and malt in that order. Taste was not much different although the port wine didn’t become evident until the latter half of the glass. wheresthepath (523), Buckinghamshire, England Jul 12, 2009 [500ml bottle from Tesco, Exeter] Black, slight beige head, slight fizz. Smooth mouthfeel with black coffee and some smoke. The port brings in some fruitiness behind, but also leaves a sticky mouthfeel, which the dry, bitter finish fails to cut through. Not bad, but could be better. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 3, 2009 The port flavor was nicely subtle and let the beer assemble in your mouth. I enjoyed this as an after dinner drink, but it could be enjoyed anytime. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 29, 2009 Bottle at Haket, Göteborg
pours dark reddish with thin creamy off white head.
Aroma is caramel, grains, malts, fresh fruits.
Taste, cherry, raisins add for a light wine like mouthfeel, smooth and easy to drink, finish with a light touch of tartness.
