Pinnhead (93), New Jersey, USA May 19, 2006 I’m not used to a stout that is so bubbley it produces an almost overflowing head. not a complaint, just observation. is ruby red. Not as heavy as a regular stout and not nearly as sweet as I feared it would be. AndreasJaeger (101), Helsingborg, Sweden May 15, 2006 Purple/Black color, creamy head. Roasted aroma with a hint of ruby port and coffee. Medium body. Sweet with fruit and port then dry and bitter eith roasted malt coffe leather and smoke. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA May 9, 2006 Pours black with a tall, creamy, tan froth that just sits there like an old dog thats trying to figure out, which way did he go ?. Looks like a black and tan. The froth finally reduces to a few clumps. Aroma is interesting enough with wet pinecone, day old coffe grinds, and smoke. Full nectar weight with ample residual effers. Flavors are dry and earthy with an old leather belt tropshire. Flavors include but not limited to coffee, tar, leather, smoke, coaco, and tree resin. The finish is long with a nice bittering. Overall: a fantastic specimen worthy of the attention. However, the only evidence of Porto is in the nose, and that only comes out as the brew warms. Highly recommended. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 8, 2006 Opaque black body with a little off-white head. Roasted malt, liquorice, a bit of bitter black chocolate, some sourness, some unpleasant astringency (bottle conditioning?). Feels vinous and sticky. In or out? I say out, like a fat kid in a dodge ball game. 500ml Bottle. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada Apr 26, 2006 Robe noire surmontée d’une mousse beige épaisse qui persiste. Arôme de métal. Saveurs de torréfié, de métal et de houblon amérisant. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 25, 2006 Bottle. Light brown creamy and lasting head. Very dark red almost black body. Coffee aroma. Smoked malt with bitter fennel flavor. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Apr 24, 2006 (Cask at Market Porter, Borough, London 20 Apr 2006) Colour is opaque black, with a creamy beige head. Nose is roasted, bitter-sweet with hints of ruby port. Taste is roasted, nutty, bitter-sweet, with more port, some cherries and a slightly hoppy finish. Complex, and very nice. ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia Apr 24, 2006 A lot of hype for a delivery that was honestly unextraordinary. Sole beer for the night and it paled in comparison to some ruby Mild’s of mine I had sitting in the fridge next to it. Poured into a pint glass just on cold. Appearance was everything as an enormous tanned soufflé head rose a good inch from the brim to set and make tasting just that little bit ’arder. The body of beer was beautifully clear and a deep, ruby brown. Mellowed and mulled mocha coffee and dark chocolate aroma with a feint touch of woody port and cherry fruits. It’s soft in the mouth, thin in body and subtle in flavour, becoming smooth as it warms. Not much of the aforementioned port at all in the flavour; leans towards dark, powdery chocolate, light notes of dessert cherries and some roasted, coffee beans which dry it right out in the back, with just a touch of burnt wood finishing it off. Falls of short in the swallow, not much baggage to carry it and it becomes a little too sweet as it goes. Sessionable, but one to easily fall through the cracks. There is just not much to it. Average at best (50cL, 23/03/06, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)
