tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 11, 2005 Updated: Jun 21, 2006Original Rating (7-2-8-3-15=3.5): Liquorice, chocolate and dark fruits in the lightly roasty aroma. Clear mahogany brown with ruby highlights topped by low brown head that diminishes to slight ring. Liquorice and chocolate flavours blend with fair roasty bitterness. Lasting sweetness on the tongue. Medium body with fairly low carbonation and somewhat syrupy, sticky texture. Cask at GBBF 2005. Rerate (8-3-8-4-16=3.9): Grape-like fruitiness marries nicely with licorice, chocolate and mild roast in the aroma. Darkest mahogany and almost opaque with lighter highlights around the edges, topped by a decent, light brown head that recedes to a fine but lasting cover. Roasted malt is strong with bittersweet dark chocolate and licorice notes and moderately strong bitterness. Fruitiness lingers in the roasty aftertaste. Medium full body is enlivened by lively, fine bubbled carbonation that engages the tongue. Half pint glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (BB030507, Bièropholie, Jun-06). Avg. Score Posted. Holdwine (905), Beertimore, Maryland, USA Sep 9, 2005 A little different for a stout. Midnight oil black pour with a huge head. Light winy taste. Very fruity aroma. A bit of a carbonated snap near the end lowers the rating somewhat. biomechanic (55), Washington, USA Sep 3, 2005 Pours dark with a medium head. Smell is fruity. Doesn’t hide the alcohol too well because of the port.It Taste a little bit on the floral side. Overall not bad but not remarkable. tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Aug 22, 2005 Bottle. Hmm... I can’t decide if I like this. This has a kind of wine feel to it, but I don’t find it that pleasant. If it were a more solidly made stout it might work. But as it is, I’m not too impressed. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Aug 21, 2005 bottle. Pours dark brown with a rather impressive dense tan hand. The aroma isn’t as impressive, semi-sweet with slight dry fruit notes. The taste is also dry and too thin for a stout. Some nice winey notes make themselves known, but altogether it’s not an outstanding beer. FrankJohansen (3329), Sabro, Denmark Aug 14, 2005 Updated: Sep 9, 2007Sweet aroma, not of port but of caramel. Appeared with a medium mostly lasting head and a cloudy body. A creamy body, but i could’nt taste the port, i think they forgot it in my beer. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden Aug 5, 2005 Pours black/red with a thick, foamy beige head. Aroma from roasted malt. Flavour is burnt coffee and roasted malt with some notes of chocolate, toffee and fruit. Medium bodied. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Aug 4, 2005 (on bottle) Black colour and a white head. Mellow aroma of toffee and fudge and a tad of molasses. The flavour is of the same, creamy and full mouthfeel. very plesant drink, although the port was hard to find.
