roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 23, 2005 Pours a very very dark brown with a very nice amount of foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, and a dry potent alcohol undertone. Flavor is smooth and dry, roasted nuts with a small small port flavor of sweet grapes and chocolate. Overall, not bad, but could have been much better. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Jul 7, 2005 darkest brown chestnut color without actually being black. a little brownish red at the edges. short creamy tan head. aroma of roasted malt, a little smoke, a little molasses. tingly carbonation, slightly watery mouthfeel. flavor is mild dry roastd malt. can’t taste the port, sorry! slightly dry aftertaste and finish. Thanks JimMack04! Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Jul 7, 2005 12oz Bottle. Poured dark, like astout, typical color and smell. Nothing extraordinary here guys. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jul 7, 2005 Bottle. Black with a small tan head. Mild roasted malt aroma. Flavor was also mild roasted malt along with some dark chocolate. Could not detect any port notes in this beer. A bit thin. markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Jun 12, 2005 Sweet aroma, reddish hued head, no port flavour detected, quite weak overall Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jun 1, 2005 Muddy brown body, with crimson edges... big, ruby-tinted tannish head, softly crumbling, leaving lace.
Sweetness is immediate in the nose, and I get the port right off, ....cognac and cherries, too. Such a delight.
Brisk, hoppy attack at the fore, sweet and fruity, with a solid, full body.
Beyond that, it’s an unfussy, easily enjoyed stout. Any typical stoutish associations are hidden behind the full flavor of the port, the brandy, the cherry, the grape....
Rather mild in the mouthfeel, after the novelty of the port infusion...not very outstanding, but a pleasant diversion, a neat after-dinner treat.
Me, I prefer stout-flavored stouts, but this was quite nice, and I’d recommend it for special occasions or sharing with friends.
JayBaxter (386), Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester, England May 28, 2005 nice enough beer but could do with a flavour injection. Sweetish, lightly roasty and very easy drinking. All in all a decent brew. Dixen (1465), Flagstaff, Arizona, USA May 26, 2005 Bottle at DBF2005. Rich roasty aroma, very nice. Jet black body, with a small creamy head. Roasty flavor, vague presence of the port flavors. Decent stout.
