turbothy (717), Bonn, Germany Mar 16, 2005 A great stout! Looks perfect, with a creamy beige head and an almost pitch black body. Taste is warm, roasted and malty but with a nice bite - not too sweet. Palate is smooth, albeit a bit watery. Finishes with the trademark O’Hanlon sludge. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 13, 2005 Thanks to npempse for this. Pours turbid ruby/black with medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocoff, perfumy hops, slight cabernet. Tastes malty, somewhat rauchy, with some fruitiness, chocoff, and finishing dry milkyness. Very complex. Finishes rauchier, with less density in the palate. Nice. TBone (6678), Pori, Finland Feb 19, 2005 Cask conditioned
Almost opaque black, not much head. Aroma of flowery hops and sweet lemon. Oaky and earthy roasted malty flavors and mildly hoppy finish. Quite watery body. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Feb 17, 2005 Updated: Feb 18, 2005(Cask conditioned@St.Urho’s Pub, Helsinki) Quite dark, reddish brown color with a small head. Roasty, dry, slightly sour aroma. Quite mild, very siightly roasty and winous flavor. Medium-bodied with a velvety, low-carbonated mouthfeel. A quite light very easily drinkable brew. Hansen (2235), Randers, Denmark Jan 30, 2005 A stout? looks more like a ale with low head. Flavor has a lot of bitterness from hops, too thin for a stout if you ask me. But nice bitterness. scotty (828), Scotland Jan 17, 2005 Typically dark colour, head nought but a small area, one bubble thick, in the middle of my glass..disappointing! Softly roasted malt aroma, I suppose that’s to be expected, but it’s getting the tastebuds going. A lightish palate for a stout, but the flavour of roast malt makes up for that, dry, nutty, with a nice finish. Can’t say I noticed any port on the nose or on the palate, a marketing ploy perhaps?...nice stout,
tho’ shame about the head. civforprez (225), Galesburg, Illinois, USA Dec 29, 2004 Extremely thin for a stout, with a lot of catrbonation which is not typical for a stout either. In fact, in character much more like a bronw ale and that was disappoiting. Otherwise, a nice beer. maeib (4683), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Dec 28, 2004 Bottled. Very dark almost black coloured stout with a nice long lasting tan coloured head. The aroma is lightly roasty and a little smoky. The taste is roasty and dry, and again a little smokiness comes through. No port noticed though.
