johninmelb (688), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Dec 23, 2004 Updated: Oct 28, 2005A nice smooth stout but a little thin with a watery finish. Nevertheless the flavour is very good with rich, well-rounded dark characters. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic Dec 23, 2004 bottled. well this made a good mess of the carpet. deep purple with a big lump of foam. aroma reminded me of aeroplane port-flavoured jelly. tasted of licorice and salt water pool and had plenty of roasted bitterness. pretty dry but i struggled to enjoy this by the end of the glass NosirIwont (1162), Aalborg Vestby, Denmark Dec 7, 2004 Bottle. Deep dark brown colour with a grey-brownish head. Roasted aroma with a creamy touch. The port appears as it warms. Also licorice (the kind you eat when you have a cold) and hints of caramel as it warms. Roasted flavour, some hints of chocolate, okay bitterness. I can’t directly taste the port, but there is something to it (behind the flavour), that other stouts doesn’t (seem to) have. A bit watery and a bit metallic palate, which I think kinda spoils the impression. DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England Dec 6, 2004 Bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, Birmingham. Very firm flavoured Stout. Rich, smooth and smoky. Really excellent stuff. walleye (876), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Dec 3, 2004 thanks flemdawg for sharing. from the bottle poured a dark ruby with a big light brown head. aroma wine, barley, liquorice, smokey, chocolate, caramel, hops and hints of plum. flavor, bitter smoke, wine like some sourness, and a dry finish. I have had better. flemdawg (485), Naples, Florida, USA Dec 3, 2004 Ruby colored with a large inital head but it dissapaites to a nice managable size. Some wine in the arom with other typical stout smells like malts, and chocolate. Interesting to say the least. A bitter taste, like those in roasted coffee. Couldnt get much of the port in here Some malts though. Not bad, but kind of gimicky I think. thehoff (567), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Nov 14, 2004 The bottle that we had was the Ruby Stout version. T Jack Hole and myself at his home. Smelled quite nice, like a rich stout. Tasted a little sweet but quite a bit of bitter coffee flavor as well. A nice stout but not my favorite. Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Nov 8, 2004 Bottle: Aroma of wine, chocolate and coffee in that order. Pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a big off-white head with great retention. The wine taste really comes thru and blends well with the coffee flavor. Very slight chocolate. Watered down. If it wasn’t for the port flavor, would be a watered down black coffee flavor. Very little chocolate. Very very light bitterness in the finish. Very thin. The port is the only thing keeping this out of the 2’s. Definitely do not look at this one the same as everyone else.
