Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Nov 1, 2004 This one poured a dark black with a medium beige head. The aroma is mainly roasted malt and coffee. The flavor contains an asprin melting on your tounge bitterness than lingers for a bit. Im not catching much of the port but I can tell its there. This flavor is similar to eating coffee beans. There is no sweetness to be found. Overall its pretty good and extremely DRY! Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2004 Dark Brown.
Odd, enchanting aroma of dry dark chocolate, fish bladder, port wine, dark fruit and roasted malt.
Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee along with dark fruits and red wine are present in the flavor profile but the lingering, dominant flvor of fish skins and bladder are simply too much for me to bear.
Down the drain it went. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia Sep 28, 2004 Pours black with a small though lasting beige head. Woody port aroma dominates, with roast/coffee behind it. Smooth medium mouthfeel. Sweet almost fruity start. Bitter dry finish with an aftertaste of roast barley and port. Not bad. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 25, 2004 Almost black, tan coloured bubbly head. Black coffee and oak in aroma. Blck coddee, dried dark fruit and oak in flavour. Full round mouthfeel. Long salty and oaky finish. I like it! leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Sep 3, 2004 Very dark brown with a loose bubbly beige head. Aromas are earthy with licourice, salt and roast malts. Flavours are roast coffee-like malts followed by a surprising level of sweetness. The finish is initially dry then some more sweetness comes through. Good stuff. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Aug 23, 2004 Pours thick black with a foamy light brown head which is quite long lasting. Aroma is mainly sweet chocolate and coffee. Tastes coffee, dried fruit, some hops. Finish is dry and a bit hoppy.
Very nice. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 18, 2004 Dark red-brown, with a creamy tan head. Aroma is mainly roasted malt, with a touch of port. Dry, rich roasted chocolate flavor with a bitter finish, with subtle hints of port. Thin-bodied. I love port and stouts but the mix wasn’t for me. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 11, 2004 Deep brown with red highlights. Huge head at first; becomes stringy and lacey. Very active carbonation. Somewhat thin-bodied and light, but not necessarily watery. A little woodsy, with a big chocolaty sweetness. Maybe even a little milky, too. Kind of fruity with a light undertone of port wine (I was expecting it to be much more pronounced). Balancing bitterness in the finish. Not too bad, but not great.
