Commercial Description:
In the winter of 1996 we were inspired by an Irish tradition for a morning after 'corpse-reviver' - a splash of Port in your stout! The inspired blending of Rich Ruby Port with O'Hanlon's award-winning stout has created a unique and original masterpiece of craft brewing.

Ruby colored with a large inital head but it dissapaites to a nice managable size. Some wine in the arom with other typical stout smells like malts, and chocolate. Interesting to say the least. A bitter taste, like those in roasted coffee. Couldnt get much of the port in here Some malts though. Not bad, but kind of gimicky I think.

The bottle that we had was the Ruby Stout version. T_Jack_Hole and myself at his home. Smelled quite nice, like a rich stout. Tasted a little sweet but quite a bit of bitter coffee flavor as well. A nice stout but not my favorite.

Bottle: Aroma of wine, chocolate and coffee in that order. Pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a big off-white head with great retention. The wine taste really comes thru and blends well with the coffee flavor. Very slight chocolate. Watered down. If it wasn’t for the port flavor, would be a watered down black coffee flavor. Very little chocolate. Very very light bitterness in the finish. Very thin. The port is the only thing keeping this out of the 2’s. Definitely do not look at this one the same as everyone else.

This one poured a dark black with a medium beige head. The aroma is mainly roasted malt and coffee. The flavor contains an asprin melting on your tounge bitterness than lingers for a bit. Im not catching much of the port but I can tell its there. This flavor is similar to eating coffee beans. There is no sweetness to be found. Overall its pretty good and extremely DRY!

Dark Brown. Odd, enchanting aroma of dry dark chocolate, fish bladder, port wine, dark fruit and roasted malt. Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee along with dark fruits and red wine are present in the flavor profile but the lingering, dominant flvor of fish skins and bladder are simply too much for me to bear. Down the drain it went.

Pours black with a small though lasting beige head. Woody port aroma dominates, with roast/coffee behind it. Smooth medium mouthfeel. Sweet almost fruity start. Bitter dry finish with an aftertaste of roast barley and port. Not bad.

Almost black, tan coloured bubbly head. Black coffee and oak in aroma. Blck coddee, dried dark fruit and oak in flavour. Full round mouthfeel. Long salty and oaky finish. I like it!

Very dark brown with a loose bubbly beige head. Aromas are earthy with licourice, salt and roast malts. Flavours are roast coffee-like malts followed by a surprising level of sweetness. The finish is initially dry then some more sweetness comes through. Good stuff.
