Commercial Description:
In the winter of 1996 we were inspired by an Irish tradition for a morning after 'corpse-reviver' - a splash of Port in your stout! The inspired blending of Rich Ruby Port with O'Hanlon's award-winning stout has created a unique and original masterpiece of craft brewing.

[bottle] Pours a dark brown with slight hints of red, a very thick and fluffy tan head and lots of carbonation. Slightly sweet aroma with a malt undertone. You can faintly smell the port under all the malt. Initial roasted malt taste with a nice touch of bitterness in the finish. A very slight hint of chocolate at the end right before the bitter. I bought this beer on sale on a whim and did not know what to expect from it. I must say that I’m rather pleased with it.

Pours more brownish than black. slight red tint. Weak head. Slight chocolate nose with hint of maltyness. Minimal bitterness with roasty malt body. mild finish. This beer does not remind me of a stout, but actually in a negative way. I guess I was expecting more from this beer.

Very dark black with hints of red. Thin, light chocolate aroma with a bigger choc taste in the body. A bit of a bitter finish. Light bodied roasted malt taste with a smooth finish.

Reddish brown in colour with a large head. Nose is weak malty and roasted. The beer is light on flavour, a weak thin stout with a hint of port.

Poured a deep reddish violet color with a large tan head and some lacing. Musty, malty, slightly roasty aroma... some vinous port as well. Roasty chocolate tastes, a hint of port in the background. Alot less flavor than expected. Carbonation was average.

Dark in colour with a thick to medium brown head. The nose is salty with some hints of malts, the taste is the same more bitter and salty. I couldnt really get into this one, may have been the salt, may have been that I am getting kind of stouted out.

Bottle (Purchased 4/20/04): Pours with a lasting, thick, high, brownish-white head and a dark reddish-brown color. Typical Irish stout aromas with a grape/port aroma readily apparent. Interesting flavor, as expected, of Irish stout + port wine with more carbonation that expected as well as a bitter, almost burnt chocolate aftertaste. I think this has potential to be great if it were smoother, less carbonated and used darker malts and slightly more bitter hops. Interesting. Need to try this to relieve a hang over in the morning as the description describes it.

Large light tan head with a very dark body. Tons of lacing. Strong raisin smell with some oak. This is dry and makes my mouth pucker. Almost an ok dry stout, but there is too much wine-like character and not in a good way. This is not drinkable. Too sour and dry. This is very overrated.
