Stew41 (1042), Caulfield, Australia Apr 11, 2009 This is a great all rounder that is actually quite quaffable thanks to its low ABV. Nose shows attractive milk chocolate, together with a hint of a sweeter, more intense liquered note. Palate is mostly dry with lightly astringent roast and a layer of sweeter coco to finish. A comfort beer in many respects. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Mar 28, 2009 Bottle. Large light brown bubbly head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Fin aroma of roasted malt, coffee, light liquorish, grain and maybe a hint of smoke. Medium bodied with a to lively carbonation for a Stout. Moderated sweet flavor with light bitter notes. Light roasted malty finish. Gethinbeer (993), Nova Scotia, Canada Mar 8, 2009 From bottle. Deep amber colour with a decent off white creamy head. Fruity aroma with what I describe as camomile lotion. Smooth syrupy texture. Slightly smoked, roasted flavour. I’m still getting the camomile lotion. Rich fruity, berry porter. No overwhelming flavours but a decent quality stout. gam (1059), brisbane, Australia Mar 1, 2009 Frothy tan head rapid carbonation dark reddy brown pour aroma port wine chocolate coffee caramel flavour port the other flavours are rather boring the bitter is overdone it is okay but not my type of stout finish bitter malty dry. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Feb 11, 2009 500 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. BB 08/02/10. DE22/09.
App.: Deep brown-black with a large, off-white head.
Aroma: Lots of milk chocolate, slight nuts, stark mineral/ash, white grapes, light fruitiness, some black coffee, that’s about it.
Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Milk chocolate, nuttiness, light ashen minerals, a touch of fruitiness, light hops – resin and pine; dry with a bit of bitterness.
willpalmer (6), Long Preston, Skipton, North Yorkshire, England does not count Feb 3, 2009 Black, the nose is coffee, licorice. Rich Flavour is rich like strong coffee. Very nice. bookman10 (84), Osseo, Minnesota, USA Jan 26, 2009 Pours a dark black with a nice, thick, creamy head. Coffee flavors, with a hint of port. Just the right combination of sweetness and bitter. One of my favorite stouts. Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jan 23, 2009 Bottle: Poured a clear black color stout with a good size foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt notes with some subtle notes of port. Taste is also an average mix between some dry roasted malt notes and some sweet port notes. Body is a bit too thin for the style in my opinion with some good carbonation. I guess this is OK but not something I would necessarily seek again.
