Jul 8, 2008 Handpulled cask at JDW St. Albans. Brown/black with beige head. Very wholesome tasty brew with lovely roasted malts, chocolaty bitterness and a touch of port. Very morish.

Jun 28, 2008 Labeled as O’Hanlon’s Ruby Stout. Shared at the Lost Abbey Angle’s Share Release. Roasted aromas as expected with hints of tartness. Tartness came through more in the flavor, but still never overtook the expected roasted and burnt malt flavors. Not too bad.

Jun 22, 2008 Cask, Bag O’ Nails, Bristol. Colour was a ruby tinged black. Aroma had elements of malt, caramel and chocolate. Smooth and sweetish. The port didn’t really make its presence felt enough. Pretty average.

May 17, 2008 Dark ruby to black, small beige head. Nose is softly burned malts, coffee, some cherries and port like dried fruits. Flavor is burned, dry malty with smooth bitter finish. Quite a contrast with the aroma. Medium bodied, quite smooth but a bit watery palate.

May 14, 2008 500 ml, bb 07 29 09. Opaque with a four-finger lasting head. Coffee, split green hickory wood, and slight gunmetal in the aroma. Flavor is a nice blend of coffee, hickory, char, dried leaf, some subtle caramel and light fruity acid. Medium-heavy body has a smooth, watery mouthfeel, and finishes with a chalky dryness on the tongue.
