Some chocolate and toffee behind a deep roasted malt body. Some smoke comes through too. Charcoal, tobacco bitter end. Thin body and a crisp texture. Quite one dimensional and not really a good beer, but this is fun and enjoyable in the end. Take it for what it is. Trappist (279), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

However it had a tawny taste that hits the palate at first, then it was followed up by a very rich and flavorful mouthfeel, that was quickly ended by something metallicy. Not to bad, but I expected different, but I did enjoy this brew. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2004 Super creamy head with a (gasp) ruby body. The initial reaction I get is of the roasted espresso, the second reaction I have is where the hell is the port? Ruby port is just so drippingly mouthfilling in every respect I have to wonder why this beer seems so thin. Perhaps the brewers were anticipating a biger palate presence on behalf of the port but it just never came. I dunno, there does seem to be a smidgeon of portliness in the aroma but what the hell? jazz88 (2239), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2003 Bottle. Black color with a ruby tint in the light. A rich light brown head. A strong coffee aroma with the ruby port coming through in the finish. The flavor is nice and light with chocolate, nuts, coffee, and some cherry. Medium body. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 21, 2005 Bottle: Nice rocky head on a dark brown - red colored brew. Very nice nose with lots of coffee and tabacco in it. The same applies for the taste, lots of chocolate mixed with tabacco - very nice, though all in all kind of flat in texture. presario (3010), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Thick brown head sinks into a lump that is rather mold-like in appearance. Aroma seems a little subdued. I expected a something more. Flavour is interesting. Light chocolate, roasted notes, cherry and plum. Full body. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 1, 2004 This one poured a dark black with a medium beige head. The aroma is mainly roasted malt and coffee. The flavor contains an asprin melting on your tounge bitterness than lingers for a bit. Im not catching much of the port but I can tell its there. This flavor is similar to eating coffee beans. There is no sweetness to be found. Overall its pretty good and extremely DRY! badgerben (3610), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2005 Updated: Aug 2, 2008Original Rating May 21, 2005: Black color with a medium head. Good flavor of malt, roasts, and chocolate with a slightly bitter finish, but the aroma was literally non-existant from this beer. I also didn’t pick up on the port. I might try it again in case this was a bad bottle, but disappointing. 5/4/6/3/13 Black color with a thin to medium head. Very light aroma of chocolate. Strong roast and chocolate malt. A little almost-pine flavor. Dry finish. The port still isn’t there. Great concept, but it needs more than a splash.
