Aug 11, 2004 Deep brown with red highlights. Huge head at first; becomes stringy and lacey. Very active carbonation. Somewhat thin-bodied and light, but not necessarily watery. A little woodsy, with a big chocolaty sweetness. Maybe even a little milky, too. Kind of fruity with a light undertone of port wine (I was expecting it to be much more pronounced). Balancing bitterness in the finish. Not too bad, but not great.

May 12, 2003 Dark brown color, hazed a bit. Mostly coffee in the nose. Smooth body, almost flat I though. Good bitterness and coffee in there, finishes long.

Feb 13, 2006 Bottled. Fruity winlike aroma with blackcurrant and a hint of chocolat. Ruby color, light brown irregular head, fair lace. Light sweet, light bitter to bitter in the finish, coffee. Sandy dry and bit watery in the finish.

Jul 25, 2004 Bottle conditioned from Safeway, Totnes, Devon. (500ml). Rich stout with evident port notes. I’m not a huge fan of stout, but this is drinkable.

Aug 2, 2003 Cola-colored body with big tan head. Aroma is medium sweet, coffee with a light vinousness. Taste is medium sweet, coffee, not much else. Finish is coffee light bitter. Medium body.

May 24, 2003 This beer poured a very dark ruby red color and formed a nice medium tan foamy head that laticed the glass with lace as it subsided. Some carbonation was present. The aroma was of malt and wine with some chocolate elements. The flavor was of malt and some wine was present, with a fairly light body for this style and some bitterness in the finish. Not a bad stout, but then again, nothing special about it either.

Sep 18, 2005 Kind of disappointing. Some malt in the aroma. There was a vinous quality to the taste, but it was overwhelmed by a powerful flavor of ok, even though this was from a bottle. Dry finish. Black, with a thick but short lived head.
