3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jazz88 (2465) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUL 20, 2003
Bottle. Black color with a ruby tint in the light. A rich light brown head. A strong coffee aroma with the ruby port coming through in the finish. The flavor is nice and light with chocolate, nuts, coffee, and some cherry. Medium body.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Drew (2413) - Kent, Ohio, USA - JUL 17, 2003
The addition of Port led me to expect a little sweetness and perhaps a bit more body. Nah. This was just yer basic nice roasty stout, with a good amount of hop in the finish - dry and also lingering.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 P-tor44 (886) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - JUL 14, 2003
Red color with a dark rich fruity aroma. Not so much red wine aromas but kind of cranberry juice notes. Overal very sweet, typical Stout flavors are balanced with a sort of grainy feeling plum red wine flavor with very light sourness. Interesting and good
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ernest (5609) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 6, 2003
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly
diminishing. Body is dark brown to black, bottle conditioned. Aroma is
moderately malty (chocolate, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers), with
notes of red wine and plum. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic,
lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately
bitter. Medium body, creamy/velvety texture, lively carbonation. I'm not
fond of the growing sourness in the finish, but it's a pleasant smelling
and attractive stout.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bov (8158) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - JUN 26, 2003
black colour, fine black tainted head, slightly roasted, cocoa and pine aroma with subtle notes of portwine, incredibly smooth and creamy, sparkling, the finish is tart, bitter and dry with roasted notes of coffee and dark fruits
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Darkover (1497) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 19, 2003
Almost black with some redness. Has a big thick tan head. Aroma of roast, vinious fruit and coffee. Flavor is roasty and bitter. Long dry and bitter finish. Very good.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 guzzler67 (1434) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - JUN 18, 2003
Good looking dark brew with a nice head and attractive lacing. Aroma was restrained, mostly fruit. Roasted malt taste with a bit of a cherry-like finish, Aftertaste was thin and a bit astringent. Not bad, just one that I probably would not order again.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Suttree (4447) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 26, 2003
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2003 Called "Ruby Stout" on my bottle. Garnet to dark purple and very "Grapey" smelling. Not at all the flavor I was expecting, though. I was thinking that it would have a kind of gooey port flavor, but instead is very dry. Lighter, too. Maybe I can taste a little port, maybe not. Very subtle.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Trappist (284) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 24, 2003
Well, not very stoutish if you ask me. However it had a tawny taste that hits the palate at first, then it was followed up by a very rich and flavorful mouthfeel, that was quickly ended by something metallicy. Not to bad, but I expected different, but I did enjoy this brew.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gunshy (479) - Ohio, USA - MAY 24, 2003
This beer poured a very dark ruby red color and formed a nice medium tan foamy head that laticed the glass with lace as it subsided. Some carbonation was present. The aroma was of malt and wine with some chocolate elements. The flavor was of malt and some wine was present, with a fairly light body for this style and some bitterness in the finish. Not a bad stout, but then again, nothing special about it either.
