3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rich garnet hued liquid. Persistent silky layer of light gray foam. Roasty aroma of cedar, toffee, warm buttered bread, and dried plum. Burnt malt and abundant fruity undertones are coupled with softened notes of phenols, chalk, medicine, and port wood. Firm, fizzy mouthfeel. Slightly creamy. Dominantly notes of roasted barley and high levels of acidity. Phenolic flavors fend the chalky, buttery elements of the dark malts in a strange fashion. Undertones of toffee, licorice, charcoal, cotton, espresso, and port-glazed malts. Finishes substantially bitter with a charred malt, bakerís chocolate lining. Itís a delicious stout, but perhaps more port emphasis would better marry the estery and phenolic aspects. The phenolic/roasted malt blend was outstanding.

Huge white head. Ruby hue, to color. A little
diferent in appearance than I expected. Weak
coffee aroma. Slight bit of sweetness to flavor.
Sugary taste, coffee is present and there is a slight
dry finish with an aftertaste that is lasting.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cherry sweetness and roastiness in aroma. More of the same in the flavor but pretty mild overall. Fair hop bitterness in the finish for a stout.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
The addition of Port led me to expect a little sweetness and perhaps a bit more body. Nah. This was just yer basic nice roasty stout, with a good amount of hop in the finish - dry and also lingering.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Red color with a dark rich fruity aroma. Not so much red wine aromas but kind of cranberry juice notes. Overal very sweet, typical Stout flavors are balanced with a sort of grainy feeling plum red wine flavor with very light sourness. Interesting and good

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly
diminishing. Body is dark brown to black, bottle conditioned. Aroma is
moderately malty (chocolate, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers), with
notes of red wine and plum. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic,
lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately
bitter. Medium body, creamy/velvety texture, lively carbonation. I'm not
fond of the growing sourness in the finish, but it's a pleasant smelling
and attractive stout.
