A voluptuous traditional Irish Red Ale, this is a rewarding drink that makes real fans of many of those who, trying it for the first time, are taken by its unique and individual strength of flavour. It is a superb example of a uniquely Irish brewing style which blends the dry smokiness of Irish stout with the warmth of a bitter ale - and what a colour!

Depp ruby in colour, it is fruit dominated in taste and aroma, but both are mild in character and are in the íwildí category as oppose to ítropicalí fruit styles.

Cask/handpump at Questors in Ealing. Pours a dark red-brown with a fine white clingy head. The nose is creamy, malty and grassy, then the palate brings a full body with nuts, oak and roast malt. The aftertaste is very astringently bitter.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2013 1) Cask handpull, The Kingís Head, Llandudno. Clear chestnut under a cream swirl. Watery berry fruit, coffee and earthy malt aroma. Some decent oily hop bitterness, coffee, slight dankness. Cinder toffee hints and hazelnut as it warms. Hints of flavour there. Not balanced and somewhat empty. 2) The felix, Nuneaton, 16/04/13. Beige collared ruby. Zero discernible nose: a rub of beeswax. Regurgitated cocktail impressions; malt loaf, marzipan stillness. Hints of flaked chocolate, Weetabix. Deathly dull, soft-bellied nothingness, heavy and sweet. Sorry. 545410.

Cask, JDW, West Kirby. Dark copper colour with a lingering medium sized creamy off white head. Fruity aroma, fairly understated. Sweetish flavour that had a caramel malt spine with redcurrant and raisin notes. Gently bitter finish. Reasonable enough stuff.
