Cask: Occasional. Also available bottle conditioned, mainly for export to America.
Has been seen as Royal Oak Pale Ale and Royal Oak Traditional Bitter.
Ingredients: Optic Pale, Crystal, and Torrified Wheat malts; Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops.
"Royal Oak is a pale ale of noble character in the grand tradition of British country brewing. Classically deep amber, rich in malt and fragrant with hop aroma, it’s a rounded, soft ale of beautifully balanced complexity and lasting finish."

500ml bottle pours a cloudy reddish brown color with a big beige head that settles to some really nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malts with a hint of chocolate and some nice aromatic hops. Taste is toasty malted sweetness with some nuttiness and a mild hoppy bitter finish. A very nicely balanced beer with a medium body and spritzy carbonation.

500ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a rich reddy brown with large off-white head. Great retention and lacing. Aroma is sweetish and earthy with a touch of dough. Flavour to match, with even more dough -- a bit like a toasted hot cross bun! Vaguely watery mouthfeel but not enough to detract.

Appearance: muddy amber, with a quickly dissipating bubbly head. Aroma: light and subtle hops, malty grains. Taste: crisp, bright hops and sour fruit followed by dark brown toast with a hint of sweet malted caramel. Finish: medium and dry, nice balance of hops and malt. Notes: Not bad. Good shot of carbonation up front, and not too hoppy. Actually pretty drinkable, although the flavors aren’t exactly my preference..

Originally rated February 2008. Bottle conditioned with a best before date: 03 03 09. They do say to let the sediments settle, and not to shake. I usually like it with this stuff in the brew, but this time, I can say that the beer tasted better before I poured everything out. Now it is very cloudy, with an orange brown colour. The head is pretty decent with some creaminess and a beige colour. Good retention and lacing all-around. At first, I smell the rusty aromas I don’t like in beers, created by whatever hop (once I find, I will never use in my own brews). Then, after breathing, it seems to go away, and the nose becomes milder with some malt, roasted and caramel. Starts on little bitterness, then goes through a touch of coffee to then finish on a nutty aftertaste, which is quite nice. A bit expensive for this one, but worth a try.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with an average, frothy, off-white to light tan head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel), average hops (flowers, herbs), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of apple and pear. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness and acidity, moderate bitterness.

Bottle-conditioned. Pours slightly cloudy, brown-orange. Aromas of stone, caraway, toffee; medium bitterness on the taste, with an afteraroma of caramel and haylike hops. Dry, slightly sticky finish. Very nice ESB.

A- Pours a murky, muddy dark brown with thick foamy light tan head. Head eventually fades to a thick collar an some lacing is left behind in the glass. Faint reddish hues can be noticed when held up to the light. S- not much to pick up. Light tones of chocolate malt and hints of barley and wine. T-Very mild flavor of sweet chocolate malt and some dark fruit. Finish is consistent with initial flavor and hints of bitter chocolate and alcohol linger. P-Low carbonation and thin-somewhat watery body. Smooth and easy to swallow. O- This is a mild and quite drinkable English brew. Nothing too special or impressive about it. Simple, yet different and something I may venture to try again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-20-2007 23:28:45
