COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Occasional. Also available bottle conditioned, mainly for export to America.
Has been seen as Royal Oak Pale Ale and Royal Oak Traditional Bitter.
Ingredients: Optic Pale, Crystal, and Torrified Wheat malts; Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops.
"Royal Oak is a pale ale of noble character in the grand tradition of British country brewing. Classically deep amber, rich in malt and fragrant with hop aroma, it’s a rounded, soft ale of beautifully balanced complexity and lasting finish."

Well first of all, this is a very attractive beer. A cloudy light brown color with a very thick off-white head. The thing is there is little yeasties floating around in it. I’m not offended by this but it’s not very attractive. Hops in the aroma but nothing too noticeable. Flavor is hoppy and lightly fruity. Too much fizz in the mouthfeel. But really, this is a good beer and if I ever found it on cask I’d be overjoyed.

50 cl bottle; Hazy red/brown with excellent head, that lasts until the last sip. However a lot of small bits of stuff floating around keeps this beer from getting a ’5’ for its looks. Aroma is very discrete with some acidious notes. Flavor is very yeasty and a bit metallic - it seems to be overconditioned or stored under the wrong conditions. However if you look for it there is a hint of strawberry below ..... i would love to taste this on cask.

The Plain Kitchen, Göteborg. Light flowery hops, mild ozone, some oak, apple skins. Dark amber red, mild haze before dregs, with almost no head. Medim watery body with mild carbonation. Starts with mild sweetness, light apple flavor, and light acidity. Fruity hops with mild bittering at the finish. After is tart sweet acidic, with mild bittering. Nice ale. Adding dregs gives extra bitter, acidic tang.

Amber colour with foamy off-white head. malty nose with a hoppy touch. Flavor starts malty, finishes with an average bitterness.

I don’t know who this "Pope" guy is, my bottle having no references to him... but this was a fine ESB. Pouring a hazy copper tone with a froathy, soapy off-white head, this has a floral and herbal hop aroma along with some orange fruitiness. The taste is a lightly sweet caramel, citric fruit, and earthy herbal hops. A very well balanced brew, this has a midly bitter finish.

(500ml bottle, best by 2/28/05) Cloudy copper body topped by medium, beige, milkshakish head. Aroma is medium sweet, floral, orange, cookie dough, light caramel. Taste is medium sweet, earthy, floral, some roasty chocolate, light raisin. Medium body, light resin, light acidity. Enjoyable beer.

Copper color with a large light beige head. Sweet pipe tobacco aromas with raisins and hazelnuts. Mild fruit (raspberry and mild mango) with dry caramel flavors. Finish is mildly earthy and mild hops stick in the linger. I enjoy this from a more traditional ale point of view.
