COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Occasional. Also available bottle conditioned, mainly for export to America.
Has been seen as Royal Oak Pale Ale and Royal Oak Traditional Bitter.
Ingredients: Optic Pale, Crystal, and Torrified Wheat malts; Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops.
"Royal Oak is a pale ale of noble character in the grand tradition of British country brewing. Classically deep amber, rich in malt and fragrant with hop aroma, it’s a rounded, soft ale of beautifully balanced complexity and lasting finish."

Bottle. Small head with short duration. Color is amber. Aroma is mainly hops. Taste is roast malt and caramel. Bitter finish.

Bottled: Hazy orange coloured. Tiny beige head. Hoppy and fruity nose. Light smoked, fruity, chocolatish flavour. Has a very nice lasting bitterness in the end. The label says "Royal Oak Traditional Bitter", but I think its this one.

Boring, like most English ales... Sparkling clear, light amber ale with a creamy, white head and sparse lacing. The nose is fairly nondescript with the exception of some light, grassy, floral and citrus notes. Tastes like a very typical English bitter. Pleasant, but bland. Light to medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, woodsy finish.

Bottle Conditioned, 500 ml. Orange amber with short lasting head. Full flavoured premium bitter, heavy for a traditional beer, but drinkable all the same. This is a warm fireside, keep the cold out beer, cosy chat and never mind the time. There is a fruity maltiness abounding, fleshy but subtle, and hidden hop notes, mine was aged somewhat!! Woody resinous finish giving a solid statement to a decent beer.

A Sim rate (Cask at Planet Thanet): Aroma of spicy breadcrumbs. Parsley. Paprika. More spice. Bitter finish that is tangy and slightly citric but over all quite savoury.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2004 This is the former Eldridge Pope/Thomas Hardy beer, now resurrected (along with some other Eldridge Pope brews, Thomas Hardy Ale included) by O'Hanlons. Rich mid amber colour. I wouldn't call this a pale ale, despite what the (old) label might suggest. More of a strong bitter. And a very fruity one at that. Plums and damsons. But underpinned by an assertive hoppiness, leading to a clean, slightly acidic finish, which counterpoints the fruit effectively. Medium bodied and well balanced. Rather nice. Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured hazy copper color with an average white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sweet hoppy aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Medium sweet hoppy flavor with a smooth toasted bitter finish of average duration. Solid drinkable flavorful brew.
