COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Occasional. Also available bottle conditioned, mainly for export to America.
Has been seen as Royal Oak Pale Ale and Royal Oak Traditional Bitter.
Ingredients: Optic Pale, Crystal, and Torrified Wheat malts; Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops.
"Royal Oak is a pale ale of noble character in the grand tradition of British country brewing. Classically deep amber, rich in malt and fragrant with hop aroma, it’s a rounded, soft ale of beautifully balanced complexity and lasting finish."

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2004 Cloudy orange brown beer with a huge thick tan-coloured head. Prominent hop aroma, with earthy and spicy notes. Faint citrus in there as well. Nice balanced flavour, slightly herbal and yeasty with some dry fruity esters in here as well. Finish is dominated by spicy hops. As the beer comes up in temperature fruitiness becomes much more pronounced in the nose. A nice rounded brew.

A golden ale with an extra thick frothy off white head, very carbonated. A pleasant citrusy malt aroma, grassy, lightly oxidized and biscuit. In mouth, crisp malt and light hopping, light mineral noted. Still in good shape. Tasted Nov. 2006, for a BB of 29-09-05.

Bottle. Amber with a small off-white head. Aromas are sweet toffee and caramel malts. Fruity with gentle hopping. Flavours are soft malts, especially caramel, with some fruit and yeast. Slightly sour with hints of chocolate. Has light grapefruit bitterness towards the finish. A good malty beer.

500ml bottle (Kolme Kaisaa, Helsinki)<bt> Mid orange, alas poured with a bit of yeast so was quite hazy. Slightly sour fruity aroma, maybe wild strawberry. Alas a bit yeasty, but a good full bodied bitter taste. There’s a bit too much sour taste, maybe from the yeast? Finish is dense, some bitterness from burnt malt, almost like an espresso. Not as good as the old Eldridge Pope beer of the same name.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2007 This is the same as the pale ale, as it’s labelled in the US, to appeal to that market. It is a bitter, and a very good one. A fruity tasty bitterness, greapefruit from Challenger and Goldings hops and lots of good comlex malting. Smooth, great lacing. Strong on the palate.

Bottle from Whole Foods, Raleigh. Gusler, your review of this one made me laugh my ass off! Pours dark straw with a gargantuan head. In fact, this one started fizzing over the bottle as soon as I opened it. Aroma of perfumy florals, hopcit, some grassy hints. Tastes very spicy, with a firm hopcit and fruit presence. Unique. Medium on the palate. Finishes hoppy, fruity, and with a dryness and smokyness that makes it stand out in the ESB realm, although my bottle states that it is a pale ale. Whatever you call it, it is very good, and for my money, worthy of repeated drinking. My glass looked like a milkshake glass when I was finished.

bottle. Copper colour, impressive and very persistent head. Lovelly aroma of wild berries. Fruity and malty flavours, hints of orange. Well-rounded with flowery hops. Long-lasting bitter-sweet aftertaste, again with hints of orange.
