3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
2008 bottle purchased at La Cave a Bulles in Paris, poured on 9/18/14 at home in Florida into a Hunahpu snifter. Pours murky brown with some purple hues and basically no head except for a ring of yellowish tans bubbles around the edges. Aroma is very sweet brown sugar and figs, chocolate, leather, toffee, caramel, molasses and some sherry notes. Flavor is figs and leather, brown sugar sweetness, light lingering chocolate and brown sugar, a hint of booze, and some bready malts. Not overly sweet to my surprise. Full bodied with very very little carbonation. Fun to try, very nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from 2008. Looks really good. Beer in the glass dark brown, small head. Intense malty aroma with a smokey touch. Starts quite strong, not too malty, light alcoholic burning notes. More and more earthy malty. Finish warming malty, less alcoholic. Nice one!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2008 Bottling. Malty caramel aroma. Rusty brown color with no foam. Tangy caramel and malt flavors. Coffee, chocolate towards the end. Palate is creamy with surprising carbonation for a beer this age. Great experience.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Vintage 2004. Very grateful to Ray for this bottle. I had worked down my expectations to avoid disappointment, and now Iím sipping this floating on a cloud. Fairly dark reddish-brown, very little carbonation. Aroma is a little surprising -- a little astringent, alcohol, also seemed a little funky, sour. So itís a shock when it hits my tongue, immediately smooth, buttery, velvety. Rich and decandent. Hard to describe. One of my favorite beer-drinking experiences.
