3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 22, 2007
Pours a clear light gold, topped by an inch of very frothy soap-sudsy white foam. Good head retention, excellent lacing. Noticeable citrus hops in the aroma - not bad at all.
Flavor - fresh citrus hops and caramel malt. No real complaints from me, except that they could have been a bit bolder. Body on the light side, but excellent carbonation that compliments the hops. Citrus and a hint of pine hops in the aftertaste. Let’s call it a dumbed-down version of a West Coast pale ale. Bump up the body a little, and this would be a very nice beer indeed.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - OCT 26, 2006
Sampled draught at the Autumn Brew Review in Minneapolis, October 7 2006. Light amber with little head and a touch of lacing....faintly fruity, PNW-hopped aroma, fresh but very light and indistinct....clean and refreshing body, moderately fruity and moderately dry towards the finish, but metallic traces near the finish seriously hurt this beer for me....overall, rather dull.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 PorterPounder (4612) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUN 22, 2005
On tap at the brewpub in St. Cloud. Light copper pour with a white spongy head, good lacing. Fresh lake water aroma, not much else comes through. Brief hints of hoppines, with some citrus undertones. Very quaffable, middle of the road pale ale, nothing offensive yet nothing to wake you up and say wow. Smooth, clean mouthfeel, turns a bit stinging near the end.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 ElGaucho (2034) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUN 5, 2005
Doughy aroma with faint hops and citrus. Gold in color with average sized small bubble white head. The head is almost cask-like. A solid layer of sheet lace. Actually a pretty good beer. My expectations weren’t too high considering the relatively low ratings of Ohara’s other brews. However, with the small volume of ratings and solid experience I personally have had with 2 of 3 other Ohara’s brews, I’m not ready to write them off yet. Some bitterness evident; enough to keep the palate interested. Session qualities. Well balanced; moderately sweet. A little thin, but above average for a brewpub beer.
