500 ml bottle as Coal Fire Porter sampled in 2009. Dark reddish body, almost black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee with a hint of liquorice. Flavor is sweet, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, some fruit and liquorice. A bit light but balanced bitterness. Medium body and a good aftertaste. Smooth and quite quaffable.

Beautifully smoked aroma, distinct peat smell. Rather ordinary in other characteristics. Dark with a frothy head, medium bodied and dry without flavour.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 HopfenWeisse (667) - - AUG 1, 2012
From old backlog. Dark brown colour with 2 finger beige head. Aroma is roasted, smoked. Flavour is same as aroma.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tombyars (1204) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - FEB 16, 2012
Tasted this at Henglers Circus, Glasgow (JDW) in February 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thick buff head. Smokey roast malt notes, long in intensity. Slick oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malt complex gives roast grain in the mouth with moist treacle flan flavours laced with blueberry fruit. There is a slight hop presence in the short, earthy aftertaste. Malty finish is slightly dry with woodsmoke, coffee and plain chocolate flavours complex in the mouth. This is a cracking Celtic Black Ale in style, one to look out for.

Another flavoursome beer from Okells. Almost black with a tan head. A good sweetish start with liquorice coming through with a fine bitterness. Unusual for a porter but this is 4.7% and several pints can be drunk. Recommended
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 laiti (3925) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 3, 2012
50 cl bottle (4,7%) @ home, BBE 03/2012
Aroma is a bit strange with licorice, oat and some sweetish cocoa. Flavour has oat, licorice, some cocoa, dark chocolate, tar, peat and smoke. Slightly sour and somewhat leathery finish with some ash, hay and goldings hops. Good and rather rich stuff for a 4,7% ABV beer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Psytron (874) - Turku, FINLAND - OCT 14, 2011
Smell of fruits, rye bread, a bit of smoke and licorice. Dark brown colour with mid-brown, large head. Watery and smoky to start with, a bit tar and licorice to be found in the finish. Wateriness also diminishes, finish is much heavier. Lazy palate. Medium bitter, lightly sweet. Less smoky than the Bamberg beers.

Wenig rauchiger Malzantrunk, bedingt röstig, harmonisch. Etwas säuerlich, heber werdend, angenehm ausgeglichen. Später deutlich milder, die Rauchigkeit ist komplett verschwunden. Nett. Danke an den Doppelbock für das Bier. 12/8/9/9/10/9
