COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Regular. Cask: Occasional (originally a Wetherspoons special - May 2006).
This is a smoked Celtic porter, with an initial sweet flavour leading to a full-bodied silky-smooth liquorice on the palate and a bitter hop finish.
Hops used: Cascade, Willamette, Styrian Goldings.

A black colored beer, with a thick dark beige head. The aroma of smoked malts with dark fruits. The taste is a little thin. There are smoked malts with coffe, a little chocolate, dark fruits like prune. A little bitter. The aftertaste is a little bitter too.

500 ml bottle. Deep dark reddish brown, nearly black, with a nice brown head. Roasted malts, coffee, liquorice and a little smoke in the aroma. The flavour is roasted, malty, with coffee, liquorice and a slightly smoky bitter hoppy finish. A nice example of how enjoyable a well-made, relatively low-ABV beer can be.

BeerViking (847) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2009
Cask at the Magpie & Crown, Brentford. Deep red-black with a clingy dark beige head. The nose is treacley with hints of sour ale, coffee and dried fruit. The body brings sweet and roasty malt, a touch of molasses, and notes of old ale and black bread, with the aftertaste bringing through coffee and roasty bitterness.
