HogcliffeLenny (140), Christchurch, Dorset, England Apr 18, 2008 Bottle 500ml, from Waitrose, Christchurch. Labelled Branded Coal Fire Porter. Pours a dark brown/going on black, with a medium brown head. Sweet malty aroma. Strong flavour of brewers yeast, followed with dark roasts and a certain smokiness. Thinner than some porters, which made it reasonably refreshing rather than warming. Nevertheless, still a good brew.
mjs (499), Helsinki, Finland Aug 16, 2008 (Bottle on 2008-08-16) Deep dark brown. Quickly disappeared medium-sized tan head. Smoke and roasted malts in nose. Full-bodied palate with medium carbonation. Smoky flavour. Roastedness. Some coffee flavours. Hints of chocolate. faroeviking (4134), Faroese Beer Republic über, Denmark Aug 12, 2008 Botella. Country rating # 111. Pours black with a red-brown edge. Medium light brown head. Lovely dark chocolate and well roasted malt with some smoke in the aroma. Bit thin mouthfeel. The flavour is really nice with soft well roasted malt, chocolate, some smoke and bitter hops. Great brew! thewolf (3607), Kolding, Denmark Aug 10, 2008 Bottle. [thank you, faroeviking]
Pours deep, almost black, with slight red edges. A big, frothy, light-beige head - fine creaminess. Settles as a few millimeters. Super aroma with good, balanced smoke, dark chocolate and softly roasted. Low carbonation, fine mouthfeel. Wonderfully balanced smoky flavour, dry cocoa and a long, lingering aftertaste with mild bitterness. Great! TET (126), Finland Aug 9, 2008 Okells Aile is almost black beer with thin brown head. Aroma is pleasant and there can find roastines, sourness and coffee. Flavour is quite pleasant and balanced even that roastiness dominates the flavour. Quite easy to drink but nice, anyway, despite of low alcohol procents. Nice porter but there should be something more than dominating roastiness. Ethereal (880), London, Greater London, England Jul 7, 2008 Bottle at The Rake, 17th May 2008. Very dark brown with a tan head, this has a very distinctive smoky aroma. Lots of spices and dark malt flavours but the palate is a bit light. An interesting smoky porter, but not one of my faves.
