Pours a dark brown with a huge foaming head. Somewhat cola colored all around. Aroma was toffee caramel. Flavor also toffee caramel, medium to light in palate, with a fair bit of sweetness rounding off the finish. There might be just a touch of spicy/grassy hop but its very subtle. Just the vaguest hint of tart or is it a mild huskiness? Very easy drinking, this one.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 BeerBelcher (972) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - OCT 5, 2008
Someone at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee recommended this beer to me. I was skeptical (a Polish dunkel?), but was quite pleased with it. I am not a huge fan of bocks and dunkels and their grainy tastes, but this beer offered up some not-too-sweet cerealness that I really liked.
Color is a dark brown with a medium amount of head. Aroma is a slightly sweet caramel cereal-ness, and flavor is the same. Mouthfeel is definitely full-bodied without being sticky.
As I said, not being a fan of the maltier German styles, this was a great way to scratch my itch for cereal/malt without being overwhelmed by that sickening-sweet malt-ball taste. I would recommend.
I got this at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee.

15-Sep-08 (500-ml bottle: Purchased 03-Jul-07 for $2.79 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) This dark beer is fairly steady from entry to finish, presenting a very sweet and malty face throughout. The dominating sweet cola flavor is joined by a touch of smoky, minimally bitter, smooth roastiness in the finish. The smooth roast is closer to that which characterizes a schwarzbier than a stout or porter. Additional flavors of molasses, licorice, and nuts add complexity and help to break up the sweet malts. Hops flavor and bitterness are virtually non-existent. With as sweet and malty as the beer is, it’s not far removed from the exceptional porters this country brews, though a bit more emphasis is placed on the sweet cola flavor than on the roast, and the alcohol and body are noticeably lessened. Medium-full bodied, sugary sweet and probably cloying to many people, but there is just enough soft roastiness to keep the sweetness from weighing down the palate. Carbonation soft and fairly light. As with the flavor, sweet cola is the overriding aroma, with obvious notes of dark toast, molasses, and lightly roasty malts plus a touch of smoke. Medium-dark brown in color with seemingly crystal-clear clarity. The light-tan head pours to not even half an inch, then settles quickly to a partial film and thin ring, leaving a few spots of lace on the glass. Overall, it’s similar to dark lagers from South America like Cusquena Dark. Palone may be a bit sweet in the balance, but the core flavors present a nice stepping stone toward Baltic Porters without the alcohol and heavy body.
