The dark colour and intense taste is due to a unique process of malt fire-burning. A process that requires craftsmanship and precision from the brewer. As a result a beer has been created with a slightly sweet taste at first sip and a nice bitter follow through.

RBESG Sheffield 2009, day 3, Piccadilly Station, Manchester. Bottle. Why this crap has such a high score it;s out of my head ! Dark brown, sugar caramel nose. Flavour is very sweet malty, coke, maple syrup. Very artificial.

bottle... dark brown with a hint of glass shine to it, medium tan head, leaves a ring... generic dunkel nose, tons of bread, caramel, no smoke at all which is what the name implies... pretty decent dunkel, a bit sweet to appeal to the masses, but not my thing

It poured a clear dark brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was dark malt and a hint of spice. The flavor was sweet caramel malt and the finish was also rather sweet with a hint of hops present.

Well, as of September 2011, this beer is marked as retired though I got this bottle in non-dusty condition from a store of great repute. It’s a nice dark colored beer w/ a tight-knit white head. The nose is quite sweet and rasiny as is the flavor. It’s a very caramelly brew and pretty nice despite being a bit sluggish and syrupy. There is a certain depth of malt character that is rather enjoyable. If this is old, I wish they’d start making it again so that I can try it fresh.

Koelschtrinker (6544) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 10, 2011
Verhalten malziger Geruch. Test vom 31.8.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,13,13,14,14,14 - 13,30

Found this one today hiding in the back of my beer fridge and am sad to see it has been retired. It had a nice, full body, and the malty sweetness made for a very full taste with no noticeable bitterness. Bottles were served at Milwaukee’s best Polish restaurant, and I’ll miss being able to order this in the future.

Can 50cl from a polnish friend tanks for him. A clear amber beer with god head. Aroma is in caramel with medium to low body, not very complex but drinkable. Will be better is not filtered, very basic.

Bottle pours out crisp dark amber topped with a small tan head. Aroma is light caramel, molasses, pit fruit, and toast malts. Taste sweetness brown sugar, toast, nuts, and some chocolate.
