Pours a really dark brown with a small tan head that leaves a decent amount of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, molasses and dark fruit. Mouthfeel was kind of thin but finishes rich and smooth. Pretty good beer.

Bottle. Pours a blackish color with ruby red notes in the bottom of the glass, and a frothy kahki head. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, minerals, liqourice, darkfruit and is quite sweet. Flavor is again quite sweet with lots of darkfruit and brown sugar, along with roasted malt, liqourice, mineral notes, chocolate and some faint coffee. The body is medium with a fairly smooth mouthfeel. Overall a good Baltic Porter, which reminds me a little of a stronger and more roasted version of the Danish Hvidtøl.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Palme (1200) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 18, 2011
0.5l pours a deep deep brown near black body with a small off-white head. Aroma is malty and sweet with some licorice and a hints of leather. Body medium to full and the carbonation is medium. Flavors are quite sweet, licorice, roasted malts, slightly salty with notes of minerals and coffee. Ends in a slightly sweet and dark-fruity finish and a nice chocolate aftertaste.

50cl bottle shared in Oswiecim. This is not bad at all. Better than expected honestly. Maybe a touch on the sweet side by a Baltic style but still tasty.

Exceptionally dark. Well, it is a porter, so I guess it’s not "exceptionally" dark, but it is quite dark. In fact, it looks like a cross between used motor oil and coal. I’m not a huge fan of Baltic Porters, so maybe I’m the wrong person to ask, but I like that it’s not syrupy or overly sweet compared to some others I’ve tried. Has a little bit of a weird soy sauce aroma, but it also has a roasted (almost burnt) malt/coffee aroma and a brown sugar element which is for the most part pleasant. The thick texture and bright fizziness are an interesting contrast. Very rich and malty with a long finish. It’s out of my comfort zone, but it’s not bad. Interesting - in a good way.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Schroppfy (2319) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - APR 6, 2011
Well, I give it average to high marks for body, conditioning and appearance. The head is thick and lovely, the body is massive, the carbonation steady. The aroma has forest woodsiness when cold, and some bitter roast. The flavor, also when cold, contains some bitter roastiness and a whole lot of all kinds of sugars; brown sugar, concentrated molasses-type sweetening, cane sugar. Sticky, thick and underattenuated (I guess somewhat to style, but without real raisiny fruity naturalness and sour edge that I like in these beers. Ciechan, Amber and Fortuna are all way better)
