Slacks (355), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Dec 16, 2006 500ml Bottle: Poured deep cherry brown, one-finger worth of head that soon fell to nothing. The aroma is complex and pleasant featuring lots of chocolate, booze-soaked cherries, black licorice, composting vegetables, and molasses. The flavour really shines, launching as an all-chocolate experience on the first sip before showing all it has to offer. Hints of all the above while adding in figs, dates, vanilla. Wow, adding in a rich body as it warms I have to say this far improves on my expectations. Excellent.
nuplastikk (428), Maryland, USA Sep 2, 2008 500ml bottle. Deep, dark black color, with a little brown maybe. Nice lasting head. The aroma is rather brutal. One would think they are about to have some World Wide Stout or some chocolate schnapps. The taste is surprisingly creamy, with a slight warming in the finish. Roasty, pungent chocolate flavors, not unlike a Caribbean Stout. Lots of rich Bock and Dunkel characteristics as well. Good example of a Baltic Porter in some ways, but the alcohol becomes a little too apparent towards the beer the more you sip. dkachur (778), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Sep 1, 2008 500 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse. Dark reddish brown color with a fizzy medium head. Roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla notes in the aroma, that almost has an oaked character. Taste is very similar, with an additional lactic sweetness. Alcohol is hidden well. Moderate carbonation, medium body. hombrepalo (465), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2008 500ml brown bottle. Deep brown in color, almost opaque. Very lacy head of deep beige foam. Deminishes slightly but is still full and smooth. Chocolate and light roasted malt aroma. Quite a rich flavour of strong dark malts, chocolaty, roasted notes with some noticable alcohol warming. Robust body.
AmEricanbrew (924), Swamp Shreveport, Left Coast, Louisiana, USA Aug 31, 2008 Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is earhty brown sugar with roasted malts. Medium body. Good flavors are on the sweet side with brown sugar black licorice and some earthy yeastiness. Pretty nice. Tiny_Tim (3), Perth, Australia does not count Aug 30, 2008 Strong malty aroma. The flavour is also strong, the alcohol and sweetness overpower the palate, but it balances out to a fairly smooth smokey finish. Probably a bit too sweet.
