Project X Beer: The French verb garder means ’to keep’, which is in reference to the ’lagering’ or aging process. This sultry honey-colored elixir is our interpretation of this French farmhouse classic. Prominent citrus, spice and toasted nut aromatics hover over a rich complex mouthfeel that contains subtle honey characteristics. Finally, our Bière de Garde is balanced with an accent of selected European hops.

Not sure what to say about this beer. Floral aroma. Very odd spicy and herbal taste. Lavender. At first I thought I liked it, then did not. Just a strange ale.

On tap at Hog’s Apothecary. It pours an amber orange/red color with a thick, off white head. The aroma is pleasant and fruity with some cherry candy, amber malts, and very light esters. The flavor is nice and complex with dense Munich-like maltiness. Toast and dark fruits. Medium floral notes with some light neutral bitterness. Hints of spice in the finish...not sure if it’s hops or yeast driven. Either way, really tasty.

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours medium brown with a clinging beige head and a spicy aroma. There is a nutty roasted malt flavor that starts sweet then turns bitter leaving some spices on the palate.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2013 Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Messed up my notes. Med body. Nice flavor. A bit unusual for the style? Got notes: Flavor is earthy in a strange way that seems to be followed by chocolate. Rather dry, has earth/dust aspects in the finish. Quite different for the style.

Had on tap at the brewery last summer. Lots of lemon and citrus on the nose. Amber pour. Bit of spices up front on the palate, hints of the citrus, and a light grassy hop note there towards the finish. Good summer session stuff.

~Citrusy (lemon peel), spicy aroma with berries (juniper) and bready malt., ~Pours a clear golden amber color with lasting white head. ~Lemon peel citrusy flavor with spicy, earthy, and berry notes. Biscuity malts. ~Medium full bodied, high CO2, sweet spice finish. ~Enjoyable strong farm house ale. Enjoyed the myriad of aroma and flavor.

On draft at the brewhouse. Perfume and alcohol dominate the nose. Colo(u)r is a fiery sunset, with another very clear beer from these guys and an off-white head. Very nice spice throughout, and you can really get some nice honey off of this. This turns into a completely different -- and even better -- beer as it warms in the glass.

Draft at the brewery. Clear golden/orange with a fluffy off white head. Aroma is spicy yeast esters, honey malt, musty cheese and some light alcohol. Flavor is spicy up front with malt and hop bitterness coming in and finishing with some alcohol warming. Medium body with active carbonation. Not my favorite style but still a nice beer except for the odd cheese aroma.
