1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 Metalchopz (1173) - Quebec, CANADA - AUG 31, 2011
Originally rated July 2006. Sampled at Hooley’s on Elgin street in Ottawa. Poured a light blond with a good creamy head with decent retention and minimal lacing and hardly any carbonation. The nose is boring with a corn malt light scent. Crisp and watery mouthfeel. The taste is mild with sweet malt and has a grainy finish. Overall, boring ale, which I would take Molson’s Export before this one.

341ml bottle. The usual Golden Ale macro. Straw colour, white head, grain malts and the hint of bitterness. Light/medium body. Standard.

355ml can. Pours a fresh urine yellow with a lot of snow white head. Grainy with some candied sugar and an unpleasant funk on the nose. Watery and sweet with that really grainy feel. On the upside it’s definitely easy to pound back 9 or 10 of these and there is a hint of flavour.

Bottle, enjoyed @ Waterfront Warehouse over fresh seafood boullebaise which was phenomenal. The beer was average Canadian lager fare although with a notably light fruity character and clean finish. Forgettable but not nasty. This was my grandfathers favorite when he was still with us, so there is definitely some points for nostalgia and comfort.

330ml bottle sample. It’s been a long time since I’m had this beauty. It pours a straw colour, with minimal head. Tastes a little bitter. Very interesting beer.

can, drunk when I was at Université de Moncton. Pale golden, classic colour for a canadian ale, malty and grainy nose, classic taste of adjuncts, a commercial product made for the masses.

341 ml bottle at Seaside Shanty in Chester Basin. Pours a clear yellow gold with a quickly disappearing soay white head. Sweet corn nose. Flavour fortunately avoids the cloying sweetness and perhaps less corny but pretty bland - maybe a hint of some malt in there. Slight finish. I had worse beers while in Nova Scotia (come on down Keith’s Light), but this is one to skip.
