3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at Scopeyís 5000th rate. Wanted to try this for ages so cheers to Paul for this one. Pours black with a very sticky tan rim. Nose is pure dark chocolate, sweet vanilla bean, balanced liquorice and loads of dark fruits. Taste is fudge like caramel and chocolate with some spice, aniseed and doughy bread. Plenty nutty with nice oak characteristics. Touch boozy with a dry and powdery feel to it. Very clean and smooth finish. Very nice

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2011 on the bottle. Pour is jet black with a small amount of very tight caramel brown head. Nose is full and well balanced, lots of oak with hints of vanilla and a nice brownie batter aroma. A bit of booze in the back. Taste has much less barrel, a sweetness in back that wasnít there in the nose. Light wood, some rich malt mid palate and berry sweetness takes over. Very full bodied with a boozy finish linger and fairly assertive carbonation. Quite a dry finish with a touch of sweetness lingering.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
The 33rd Imperial Stout on RateBeer of retired and non-retired beers. Leighton gave me this bottle in August, 2010 Brew-date and enjoyed in a stemmed glass at 50 Degrees F.
A - Poured an oily pitch black and formed a tiny but persistent espresso colored thin ring of carbonation. Looks like oil in my glass, I couldnít see through even on the pour.
S - Holy roasted chestnuts. Smells like I set fire to a canister of almonds and doused them in oak port barrels then smashed up some vanilla beans, hazelnuts and figs and threw those in the glass. The fig / prune nose is very persistent.
T - Very fruit forward with raisins and other dark fruits. Vanilla in the middle and the finish is an oak bomb lined with milk chocolate. Minor medicinal characters but the most impressive part of this taste is how well integrated every flavor is. Like these are all best friends chilling out in my glass.
M - One of the thickest imperial stouts Iíve ever had. Oily, thick, hearty and the tannic properties stick to my taste buds for about 10 minutes in between each sip.
O - This beer sits around Stoneís IRS and Goose Islandís Cherry Rye. Iíd say thatís a solid place to be. Itís not mind blowing but it is integrated, smooth and, at 11% ABV, itís perhaps the most flavorful imperial stout in that range. Very much enjoyed and I could drink this often.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle, huge thanks to Doug. This is a big rich beer, raisin, leather, licorice, sugar, soft smoke character. There is a lot going on.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, courtesy of kermis and jmgreenuk. Drank right after the regular version. Pours a pitch black beer with a pillowy brown head on top. Settles in quickly without leaving lacing. Aroma has massive wood, oak, licorice, roasted malts, caramel and chocolate. The base beer is faded nicely into the background, but the barrel characteristics arenít overwhelming. Same goes for the flavors. Very sweet, oaky, touches of caramel and vanilla. Very boozy and powerful, which suits this beer quite good. Again, smooth as silk mouthfeel. Amazing!

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark brown with a brown disappearing, nonlacy head. Smells of chocolate and roasted malt with a hint of alcohol, Thick full oily body. Defiantly thicker than the regular. Rich chocolate molasses taste with a bitter roast and a finish with a slight bitter. Though in some ways I like the original better this one is more complex and softer for sipping.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
275ml bottle from cgarvieuk - Cheers Craig! Pours very dark brown with a good, tan head. Vanilla and chocolate aromas, dark chocolate, sherry and dark fruit. Taste brings all this together, with a hint of whisky, oak, more chocolate & sherry/rich red wine. Mmm. Full body, creamy and smooth, long finish. Just cracking stuff. Great sipper on a cold night.
