I admit to being a fan of strong dark beers and this is the tops, Never, never, never drink this masterpiece chilled, drink at room temperature. For complete enjoyment, pour slowly into large jug in one pour leaving sediment behind, I know it will be hard but leave it for an hour, then pour into bulbous glass, I often use a Douglas Scotch Ale thistle glass. ENJOY. It may of course be kept for up to 10 years, can you leave it that long ???

Big thanks to Robert Dale for hooking me up with this one. 2010 bottle. 275ml. Black with a finger of mocha head that recedes into a ring. Sweetness, chocolate candy, caramel, malted milk balls, some boozy heat, werthers, chewy body possibly over carbonated body. Some of the sour barrel notes at the end. Pretty good stuff, not sure it’s as high as the ratings but glad to try it.

Bottled, 275ml, 2005 version kindly given to me by Fin, cheers buddy. My 10k rating. Jet black with brown head. This is thick on the palate, almost syrupy with a couch medicine character, rich darkly roasted bitter malts with a heavy tarrry presence. Full on throughout the beer but then there is a big fruitiness along with an acrid woodiness. Loads of character to this and still perfect with the ageing, 9 yrs. Superb.

275ml bottle from brewery via eebria. Brewed 09/11/11, BB 09/11/21. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head (which fades to nothing fast, no lacing), very slight hint of red under light. Aroma has a lot prunes/prune juice, soy/teriyaki as well as light coffee, light liquorice, and a touch of grass. Full body, light carbonation. A big sticky beer with, unsurprisingly, a fair amount going on. There’s a grassiness in the background, while up front you have soy, beef jerky, teriyaki, treacle, wood, rum, coke, booze, dark chocolate/espresso bitterness, a little vanilla... The balance leans heavily towards the soy/teriyaki flavours. It’s a good imperial stout, enjoyable enough.

Garrold (1214) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - APR 22, 2014
Bottle from the brewery, via Eebria. Just about black. Halo of tan head. Blackcurrant. Muscovado sugar. Black treacle. Vine fruits. Christmas pudding. Light smoke. Taste is chewy, smoky sweetness. Some dry bitterness follows. Palate is thick, tooth clinging oiliness. In lovely condition. Worthy of the hype.

danlo (1121) - Darlington, Durham, ENGLAND - APR 19, 2014
275ml bottle. Brewed 09.11.2011. Pours a very dark brown-black with a brown head that slowly dissipates to a thin layer and aroma of malt, light roasted, molasses, honey, chocolate, vanilla. Taste is sweet roasted malt, peaty, chocolate, fig, brown sugar, dark fruits, toffee, coffee, leather, woody oak, light grassy. Silky smooth and slighty oily mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, warming finish. Complex, balanced, very drinkable.

2010 bottle from PaulUnwin, thanks
Pours dark brown with a medium sized dark brown head and some lacing. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, sweet malts, woody and leather. Flavors are thick and silky chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, molasses and oak
Wow, this is great. I could sip on this all night. No alcohols at all, easy drinking but I’m trying to make it last.
