275ml bottle courtesy of biggsbowler. Thanks Randall! Been hunting this one for awhile. Pours black, small off white head. Nose is amazing with bourbon, sherry, port notes and chocolate with a hint of biscuit. Flavor is silky smooth, with hints of smoke, chocolate, whiskey. Palate is full but not boozy in the least. This is an amazing beer.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2015 (Old Chimneys Good King Henry Special Reserve) Re-rate, bottle 275 ml at home, from an IP trade with BenH, thanks Ben! Vintage 2012, served into a snifter, ABV 11% Same appearance as previous rating, totally black with a finger of thick, dark brown head, with great retention. Aroma of vanilla, cheddar, wood, roasted malts, whiskey, faint alcohol. Much better taste than previous bottle, the soy sauce has gone, instead lots of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, notable alcohol, liquorice, whiskey like it’s barrel aged, cheddar. Full body, nicely carbonated. Fantastic, once again, even better than the previous bottle. Bottle 275 ml from a trade with cgarvieuk a couple of years ago at Borefts, vintage 2010. Served into a snifter, ABV 11% Black as the night colour on the body, absorbing all light and thick as motor oil. One full finger of thick, dark brown head sitting on top, with great retention. Aroma has lots of vanilla, alcohol, wood, roasted malts, soy sauce, light liquorice. Taste is sweet but not cloying, lots of roasted malts, coal and ash on the finish, vanilla, hints of alcohol every now and then and as it warms up but otherwise well hidden, soy sauce, plums, dark fruits, faint chocolate. I could just keep writing, the more it warms up the more it reveals. Thick, full body with good carbonation. Amazing, even at 5 years old. 9-4-8-4-18=4.3

Huge roasted flavours, thick and boozy... dried fruit, coffee, wood, chocolate, a hint of port. Incredibly well balanced, and just proper tasty. Brilliant.

275 ml bottle, 2011 vintage, from a trade with Garrold, many thanks Gary for this big want!
Black body, with a small, dense, creamy, dark, coffee colored head.
Wonderful, smooth aroma of oak, dark chocolate, cocoa, coconut, smooth espresso, some toffee, subtle dark and dried fruits.
Taste is also delicious and very smooth, with melting dark chocolate, espresso, dark and dried fruits, cocoa powder, oak, coconut, toffee, some liquorice, subtle alcohol.
Perfect, full, creamy, velvety mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes smooth, a bit alcohol warming, quite dry, wooden, with cocoa, some coffee, some liquorice

Amazing! One of the smoothest and most balanced high ABV beers I’ve ever had. Really complex, but feels so simple at the same time, every aroma in its right place, leading to a round, creamy, very comfortable sipper. My favourite Imperial Stout so far, close to perfection!

Knaller.

275 mL bottle to a Kate the Great snifter. 2009 vintage, brewed 11/16/2009 (a), whatever the (a) means. Huge thanks to Paul for this bottle. Viscous looking black with almost no bubbles until I begin to pour into the glass vertically. A mocha ring around the beer with some lovely legs. Easily one of the most compelling stouts I’ve ever smelled. Chocolate malt and probably the two most dominant aromas, but dark fruits pierce through with oak and a slight smokiness that adds an earthy complexity that is just wonderful. Perhaps the nose was a high standard to set. It lacks a bit of the refinement of the aroma. Oak immediately permeates a dark chocolate flavor that becomes bitter and smokey as it lingers. The oak dominates the aftertaste, giving it a slight astringent and vinous character. I feel it’s a touch thin. Maybe the oak makes it feel that way. Low carbonation helps simulate some body. It would be unfair to say I was let down by the taste, but it just smells so wonderful. The flavors are all there in the taste, but at different proportions from the aroma. If it lived up to the nose, it would be one of the best stouts out there.

Black, small tan head. 2009 side by side with 2012. Boozy bourbon aroma. Coats my mouth with chocolate, bourbon, and a hint of licorice. 12 has much higher carbonation, more licorice. Very nice,.
