Damn, I hate it when I get guilted into rating.Bottle shared from Douglas88. Thanks for the very special brew. So many flavors blended together and harmonizing perfectly like all 50 members of Jet. ( they were a band in the 70’s) You now when you enjoy an Expedition Stout, the flavors can almost yell at you: "hey, grey haired old guy, this is the molasss crew over here smacking your taste buds or " gee can you guess that we are from the Coffea canephora family?". The flavors in this brew whisper in your ear. Simply a wonderful brew.

Black, small tan head. 2009 side by side with 2012. Boozy bourbon aroma. Coats my mouth with chocolate, bourbon, and a hint of licorice. 12 has much higher carbonation, more licorice. Very nice,.

275ml bottle enjoyed @ home, 2011 vintage thanks to cgarvieuk. Pours deep brown almost black with a small brown head. Aroma is oak, dark fruits, coffee, roasted malt, leather, chocolate and vanilla. Flavour is sweet, slightly bitter with some woody tannin. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is dry and woody.

Bottle @ home. Thanks Bobby and Colin. Deep black color with a khaki head. A whole or roast, cocoa, and licorice. Some oak, soy, and a lot of red grape. Big time fruits. Flavor is a little on the sweet and fruity side. Cocoa, licorice, and grape jelly on the tongue. Nice burnt sugar on the palate. Pretty enjoyable.

Black pour with a thin and tight mocha head. Awesome rich oakiness with notes of vanilla and toasted coconut that blend beautifully with mild dark fruits, subtle coffee, brown sugar and toffee. The roastiness and touches of smoke and tannins keep this from getting too sweet. Amazing creamy and silky mouthfeel. Truly one of the best Imperial Stouts Ive tasted.

Bottle from Eebria [050214]
Pitch black, large tan head, some lacing
Aroma of rich deep dark malts, savoury soy, oak wood, leather, smooth deep mellow roast, complex, tad of dark fruits, woody
Taste of very rich dark malts, deep mellow roast, savoury notes, very oaky, dark chocolate, tar, complex, very savoury, yeast, too oaky for me
Palate - Full body, fairly sweet, alcohol a bit noticeable. Finish as main flavour, lingering rich dark malts, lots of oak
Overall - Well I tried it at last...very rich and complex but its too oaky and woody - and Iím not that keen on that oaky flavour - its a bit astringent. I prefer the plain GKH - itís more drinkable. Maybe other years are better. Going on this year alone itís not the best UK impy. I ordered 2 bottles and came to the same conclusion with both.

275 mL bottle to a Kate the Great snifter. 2009 vintage, brewed 11/16/2009 (a), whatever the (a) means. Huge thanks to Paul for this bottle. Viscous looking black with almost no bubbles until I begin to pour into the glass vertically. A mocha ring around the beer with some lovely legs. Easily one of the most compelling stouts Iíve ever smelled. Chocolate malt and probably the two most dominant aromas, but dark fruits pierce through with oak and a slight smokiness that adds an earthy complexity that is just wonderful. Perhaps the nose was a high standard to set. It lacks a bit of the refinement of the aroma. Oak immediately permeates a dark chocolate flavor that becomes bitter and smokey as it lingers. The oak dominates the aftertaste, giving it a slight astringent and vinous character. I feel itís a touch thin. Maybe the oak makes it feel that way. Low carbonation helps simulate some body. It would be unfair to say I was let down by the taste, but it just smells so wonderful. The flavors are all there in the taste, but at different proportions from the aroma. If it lived up to the nose, it would be one of the best stouts out there.
