275ml bottle. BB 01.11.09 Heavy molasses aroma. A bit of diacetyl. Some wet, charred wood. Lots of vanilla extract. A touch of soy. Oily roasted malt. Decent, but unspectacular. Pours a thick, dark brown, with oily yellow legs capped by a thin grey film. Flavor is loaded with soy and butterscotch. Salty brine. Slightly sour. Some green peppers. Vanilla and caramel (or is it butterscotch)? Thick and cloying on the tongue with a salty and soy finish. Really not all that great... Thanks anyway Eben!

Black with creamy brown head, though it doesn’t linger for long. Chocolate, boozy aroma. Creamy, rich roast aftertaste, very pleasant, complex, chocolate notes, and slightly sweet. Clearly one of England’s finest.

Bottle, courtesy of kermis and jmgreenuk. Pours a pitch black beer with a small, beige head on top that leaves no lacing. Aroma has massive licorice, vanilla and caramel going on, alongside some spicy notes as well. Very nice. Flavor is very sweet with loads of vanilla, caramel and licorice. Mouthfeel is smooth as silk. Amazingly well crafted beer, nice balance, soft carbontation. Very nice!

Dark brown with a thin, brown, disappearing non-lacy head. Smells of raisins, milk chocolate, soft roast, liquorish and faint alcohol. Full silky creamy oily body. Perfect. Taste of sweet soft chocolate balanced against a medium bitterness. Basically nice smooth dark chocolate with a hint of alcohol. The aftertaste is of roast and a bit of alcohol. Very nice indeed.

Bottle from the brewery. Poured an oily deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, liqourice, and initially slightly hop medicinal too. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich creamy liqourice bitter slightly fruit palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation. A superb beer.
