275ml bottle. BB 01.11.09 Heavy molasses aroma. A bit of diacetyl. Some wet, charred wood. Lots of vanilla extract. A touch of soy. Oily roasted malt. Decent, but unspectacular. Pours a thick, dark brown, with oily yellow legs capped by a thin grey film. Flavor is loaded with soy and butterscotch. Salty brine. Slightly sour. Some green peppers. Vanilla and caramel (or is it butterscotch)? Thick and cloying on the tongue with a salty and soy finish. Really not all that great... Thanks anyway Eben!

Bottle from the brewery. Pours black with a nice thick layer of beige foam. Really nice sweet mocha aroma. The taste starts with a little spice before coffee and bitter dark chocolate. A little black fruit and leather in there too. Nice creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Delicious.

330ml bottle. Lot No. 876. Pours black in colour with a light brown foam head. Nose of roasted malt, chocolate & coffee. Sweetish roast malt flavour with molasses, dark fruits, chocolate powder, coffee and some bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, fine carbonation, boozy roast bitter finish. Very drinkable.

2/20/15. Sampled during RBWG 2015. Very happy to see this as I had sampled the Special Reserve before but not this one! Black pour with a nice tan head, good lacing. Rich aroma, ashy, coffee, biscuits, some dark fruits mixed in. Great flavor, ashy, chocolate, coffee, char, dark fruits, caramel, biscuits. Tasty!

11.2 oz brown bottle; Lot #721; BB dated 11-2015. Pours dark brown, looking black in the snifter. The light brown head has somewhat weak retention. This has a full mouthfeel, but not as thick or even syrupy as I expected after watching the pour. The rich aroma carries hints of dark fruits and faint (for ABV) alcohol esters. The flavor is also rich and complex, but a touch too sweet until the aftertaste. More chocolate than fruit in the flavor.

(Old Chimneys Good King Henry ) Bottle 275 ml at home. Batch 514, BB3/2014, from cgarvieuk , thanks Craig! Served into a snifter, ABV 9.6% Pitch black colour, one finger of thick brown head sitting on top with good retention, leaving a foam island on the beer’s surface and light lacing around the glass. Lots of malts on the aroma, prunes, chocolate, figs, light leather, alcohol after a deep sniff. Taste of toasted malts, prunes, leather, light smoke, chocolate cake, dried figs, a touch of spice, chocolate, some coffee. Medium thick body with good carbonation, creamy and smooth texture. Great beer.

bottle thanks to cgarvieuk. Nose is a huge chocolate bomb with a little bit of tobacco. Pitch black in color with a medium brown head, leaves a film on top and a ring clinging to the edge, very fine bubbles. Taste is decadent like dark chocolate with just a touch of coffee and roast to dry out the finish. A light tartness in the finish as it warms. Very light, very smooth alcohol warming, all pleasant. Truly a great beer.
