2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
This is billed as bottle conditioned but I couldn’t find the slightest trace of any yeast in the bottle. It’s also billed as a wheat beer although, in common with many British wheat beers, its quite hard to find much wheat character. So I’m putting it in as a golden ale. I suspect that British brewers describe beers with even a fairly low proportion of wheat in the grain bill as wheat beers. Golden colour. Clear as a bell. Fair sized white head. The aroma is rather elusive. I may have picked up some slight estery hints and vanilla, but that may only have been because I was straining hard to find some wheat character. Otherwise, its a fairly dry and crisp golden ale with some bitterness. No great hop presence. Pleasant enough. 275ml bottle from Memorable Cheeses, Ipswich.
