2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at the Bricklayers Arms, Putney. It pours deep ruby with a medium beige head. The nose is toast, light roast, dark fruit, berry and caramel. The taste is bitter-sweet, light roast, coffee grinds, dark fruit, wood, toast, touch of tang and rubber with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not particularly inspiring, but ok.

Bottle off the folks for Xmas. Black with a beige head barely reaching the edges of the glass. Vegetal, Twiglet, iron and chocolate-dusted cinder toffee aroma. Mouldering leaf matter, yeast extract, rust on the palate. Leaves quite a watery, weakly rusted impression. Lacks body and roast.

Never heard of this until I moved to Kent. Very smooth beer. With a light smokey chocolate flavour. The brewery does a nice range of boxes of this tipple for parties. Great value.
