Bottle (bought at the Goods Shed, Canterbury): Deep amber coloured, hazy, small tanned head, sweetish roasty and dark-malty nose, freshly ground coffee and dark fruits underneath; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, a light acidity is detectable, light bodied and soft; slightly increasing bitterness towards the roasty-coffeeish finish. Good and pleasant.....

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon Dec 2011 consumed at home, 18.12.11 Pours black, it might be dark brown but looks black in this light. Good stout if a tad thin at times, nice burnt woodiness on nose, with some roasted malt. Smooth in mouth, chocolate is a little watery, little fruity. A nice beer that tastes better if you don’t start trying to dissect it and pull it apart. > A7 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.3

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle off the folks for Xmas. Black with a beige head barely reaching the edges of the glass. Vegetal, Twiglet, iron and chocolate-dusted cinder toffee aroma. Mouldering leaf matter, yeast extract, rust on the palate. Leaves quite a watery, weakly rusted impression. Lacks body and roast.

Cask-conditioned at the Kent Beeriodical, the Seven Stars Bristol February 2012. Near black with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, milk chocolate, berry fruit and liquorice aroma. Flavours of milky coffee, prunes and more chocolate, with some sweetness in the finish. Too sweet for me.
